He is a singer in the mould of yesudos, with good tamil pronunciation. He has good base voice and sings with lot of involvement. He may not be versatile, but that is no good reason for MDs to ignore him. He gets very few chances to sing these days, but still his success ratio is really high. Illayaraja used to give lots of good songs to him in the beginning. Recently, Rahman used him to give hits like "En mel vizhuntha mazhaithuliye" and "thennayile".
