  ramesh you misunderstood my point! I agree that non-commercial movies are good. But touting that those are the only good movies and people are good movie watchers only if they like such movies is streching democratic viewing a bit too far.
  
  I have seen almost all akiro kurosawa's movies. I understand speilberg, mani rathnam and kamal hasaan are huge followers of kurosowa.
  
  But the patience and time required to undertand such movies cannot be possesed by all and more pertinently that doesnt make them inferior.
  
  Iruvar is my choice of mani's best movie ever. I have written a lot about manirathan in a separate thread I will post the url of the thread in a moment.
  
  See Dilse is where you make a strech too far. I agree it was a reasonable movie. but the screenplay was an all time manirathnam low. I already saw mani posessing screen play flaws in "thiruda thirudaa" another landmark movie. But "dilse" simply bought the best of badness in mani's screenplay. Just because it was in the berlin festival only means that sekhar kapoor and ramgopal varma's clout with them worked. check out the categories in that film festival and u'll know what this award meant.
  
  see the difference in dilse is this. Mani is a big planner like speilberg. he takes twice the time to write the movie than he takes to shoot it actually. but ram gopal varma is notnso conventional. he develeops scripts while he shoots them. which i personally detest. evidence of such shoddy planning is all over dilse.
  
  I do see art movies. But I vehemently maintain the point that art movie watchers do not become elite experts by virtue of this qualification alone.
