Greasy tabloid soon reported that he was heavily in debt due to his flamboyant lifestyle. According to one scoop, he actually lived with his family in a hotel for almost a year as creditors absorbed his mansion!

Karthik would have had a better career if he had taken care of himself.. He's a mediocer actor, but he had several bad habits, like Ganja, (Merijuana)

I have read this many times, in the yesteryears film personalities inbterviews....

He is one of the best actors of TF.... Even surya in his latest interview in Sun Musoic.. said that kartthik is one of his role model...

Karthik is one of my favourite all-time actors...his characters in most of his movies are genuine and i like that about his movies...

I don't think Karthik should act as a bad guy in Sathyaraj's film but the role might be interesting for him...

I remember Karthik was a teenage heartthrob at one time(this was when Ravi shastri was another one).He did have some amount of talent ..unfourtunately he seems to have lost his way and gotten sidetracked somewhere along.I have heard some very rotten things about him.Dont know if they are real or not and dont care either.I def dont want to see him as a hero again.So becoming a villan or a character artist is his next best option.

karthik was indeed a talented actor in TF

though he came as Muthuraman's son, he didnt use his father's image or style .. He had his own style

initially he did some masala movies (rama narayanan) but at one point he was very good in acting .. He could give very subtle expressions easily..

Many movies- Mowna raagam, Varusham 16, Gokulathil seethai (only he could do that), Ponnumani, Muthukalai, Unnidathil ennai koduthen, Solla thudikudhu manasi, Aanandha poongatre etc.

He didnt have much luck in late 90's but definitely he's a very good actor whose acting talents have to be explored by directors yet
except Vikraman/Fazil

i'd rather Karthik not act at all any more...he's done well with his career...even through his personal issues (whatever they may be)

That movie was a stunner

Excellent screenplay by agathian and fantastic acting by karthik.. truly awesome..

Jaishankar was the swashbuckling hero of the Seventies (CID Shankar), villain of the Eighties (Murattu Kaalai) and character artiste of the Nineties (Thalabadhi).

I personally am not an ardent fan of Karthik only because I think overall, he lacked the charisma that was present in other actors. He had done some good ones; Alaigal Oivathilei, Agni Natchithiram, Mouna Raagam. Then, like many others, he lapsed into stereotypical roles. His comedy really annoyed me; his idea of being funny was to stammer ("Naana�? Illai�.nee�naa�yei!..."), while shrugging his shoulders and opening his eyes as wide as humanly possible.

But I don't think that by taking this villain role, he's signed a death sentence. In fact, I hope he does well. The fact that he's decided to take on such a role is an indication (hopefully) that he is willing to re-invent himself. He is, first and foremost, an actor. And just like Crab said, he may be taking the same path as Jayshankar. The late actor was realistic and talented enough to move beyond the hero roles. So, this may be the beginning if something new for Karthik.

Really irritating title.......

What a wonderful actor, and also loved by all cinema goers irrespective of their age.

Even it is not too late to rise again, because many actors more years elder than him are still surviving. But he should come out from his bad habits and bad name, as non-punctual, call-sheet shodhappal etc.

His movies should be more than 60. I saw the list. Many movies (ex: Oomai vizhigal, unnidathil ennai koduthen etc) are missing.

His personality and LOOKS. NOTHING ELSE.
He was more a dream boy of many young women of
yester years. Reg his acting ability...HE scores
lil more than pass mark.

The greatest drawback for him is HIS FEMININE VOICE.

What led to his fall?

He chose the SAME CLICHE characters time and again.
Thinking about his movies always reminds us of
a naughty young attractive romantic hero. Nothing else.
When a person reaches 35 to 40, he should concentrate

Naadodi Thendral failed because of him.His look, personality and his father's name rised him to a great place, but he never tried to improve and did not think going beyond that. I just saw Unnakaage ellam unakaage on Sun TV on Saturday. One of the funniest movies I have ever seen.

Although Koundamani and Vivek were the main comedians in the film, Karthik's expressions were funny!

We cannot underestimate Karthik that much.

In the guinness record movie "Suyamwaram" which is a multi star value project (Sathyaraj, Prabhu, Prabhu Deva, Livingston, Abbas, Arjun, Nepolian, Vijayakumar, Vineeth, Pandiayarajan, Baghayaraj, madhan bob, Dhamu, Kumarimuthu, Vignesh, Parthiban etc) KARTHIK has done that 'Absent minded' Doctor roll very perfectly.

After interview finished, he will ask very innocently to Baghyaraj "AmA enakku endha oorla posting?"

In fact, his acting was superb in that film comparing to others.

That is from Mouna Ragam only
He waltzes in like a breath of fresh air in the movie.
That was the time his market was doing good.
I also have this movie called EngaVeetuRamayanam.Its got Karthik and SV Sekar in it with VK Ramaswamy as their father.
The movie is hilarious and karthik does as well as SV Sekar in comedy.

I remember being a huge fan of his then.
Infact he was a good actor but spoilt his own life because of his habits.He is also said to have had numerous affairs.
He did some serious stuff in the movie Ponnumani.I think even when ponnumani released he had an ok market..it was only later that his market fell drastically.

Yeah agninakshatram was too good. I have already mentioned that movie in this thread.

Varsham 16 also spoke a lot bout his talent.

I was a HUGE FAN OF karthik too. I also got nosy enough to enquire in this thread bout his affairs and was rightly put in place

If I remember right 'Kizhakku vasal' was his final hit. After that he started lookin too old for a hero. He should have done nice supportive character roles to keep up his image.

I remember another suave scene from mouna raagam. Karthik will be waiting outside revathi's house in the rain. He will ask Revathi to marry him and the dialogue goes like this:

Things went on like this for about a week and then there was pack up. No doubt the director and Satyaraj are gnashing their teeth.

Meaning from the dictionary.

Ive also read that beauty is usually defined by the symmetry of features apart from having stiking features themselves.SS does not have any striking features neither could he lay claim to any symmetry of features.

P.S : Physical beauty is not the be all and end all.When you really like someone their physical appearance doesnt bother you. The fact that you like someone inspite of them not being a "good looking" person is saying something both for them as well as for you.Which is why what ever the SS has achieved so far has so much significance!

Didnt you read my next statement that beauty is measured by a persons features and their symmetry?There was an article sometime back on India times or one of those magazines on how they selected the most beautiful people and why aishwarya rai and milind soman made it to their list (they apparently have very symmetrical features).There was even pictures explaining what they meant by symmetry which is beyond me to draw .I agree that ultimately beauty does lie in the eyes of the beholder but this was just my quirky way of answering to Bay's question on why SS wouldnt make it to any Handsome list.

If you say being handsome is all about having symmetrical features, then only body builders can be called so. However there are two ways of maintaining one's structure. One is building up and the other is toning (or maintaining the slim stature). Stallone, Arnold, Hrithik, Salman, Aamir, Arjun Rampal etc belong to the first....Tom Cruise, Hanks, Rajini, Amitabh, Shahrukh, and even Vijay belong to the second type....I personally feel actors look better when they are toned, cos they can suit any character they play. And Rajini is very handsome that way.....His looks in the late 80s-early 90s was rocking !!

But again, this is just my personal opinion ....

Tom cruise has features which Rajni does not have.
Features does add to physical looks. Rajni does not possess that to a great extent. HE HAS STYLE which is sure mesmerizing.

All said n done, we never know why some ppl like some others and vice versa.

Actor Karthik enters political arena

Chennai, Dec 14: M Karthik, popular hero of many Tamil films and son of late Muthuraman, today announced in Chennai his decision to enter politics. He will either join the All India Forward Bloc (AIFB) or float his own outfit. The final decision would be taken in four or five days.

Karthik said he had never thought of joining politics until recently. Recently, he had formed a voluntary organisation, Sharanalayam.

During its meetings held at Rajapalayam and Madurai, people from many parties wanted him to take up politics. He had been in two minds for some time. In the last few months, he was more and more inclined to take up politics to serve the people, he said.

There were some members belonging to the Thevar community who wanted him to unite various Forward Bloc parties, which had got divided for various reasons. There was an offer from the All India Forward Bloc that he should join the party and take up a post like its general secretaryship in Tamil Nadu and help unite various FB sections, he said.

However, there was yet no formal communication from AIFB leader Biswas on the post to be assigned to him. "Although there is no pre-condition to join the AIFB, there is no point in joining it as an ordinary member. Without a vital post, I cannot set out to do what I want to," Karthik added.

He was expecting a communication from the AIFB tonight. On getting the communication, he would decide on attending an AIFB convention being organised at Dhanbad from December 16 to 21, Karthik said.

However, if there was no adequate response from the AIFB, he would decide on his second option -- on launching his own party in Tamil Nadu -- in the next few days. "I am weighing the two options. My final decision will be known by December 21," he said.

"In any case, there is no going back on the decision to enter politics. Our party will contest next year's Assembly elections in Tamil Nadu. No final decision has yet been taken on whether I will contest or not," he said, replying to a question.

He was not in favour of joining a FB party merely it was an organisation essentially of the Thevar community. "I belong to the Thevar community and it is a fact that I derive a lot of support from the Thevars. However, I believe in serving people from all castes and communities and I will be a bridge for various communities. I feel there is nothing wrong in joining a party which had such eminent leaders like Subhash Chandra Bose and Pon Muthuramalingam," he added. (R Rangaraj)

Karthik is also a devar, and the community enjoys immense goodwill in the district. Can this guy give a tough fight to Jayalalithaa? Will election in this area be influenced by caste? It must be remembered that Jayalalithaa had a high regard for the actor�s father, Mutthuraman and regarded him as a man of very good character.

Yesterday the actor released his poll manifesto making promises that he would put an end to corruption and criminalisation of politics.

ooo seen seen ya somehting like that.....ya i used to love that movie and be a crazyy fan of karthik.....my mum said she had to either play a vijay, or karthik film to make me eat. but then after padayappa came, i watched it in the cinema and i was eating the sweet jelly babies and i got soo excited i choked 3 at one go and went all red..i was about 6 then........i loved that movie so after that i didnt need any karthik movies, vijay and rajini....but i was a fan of rajini even before that.......
