ஒரு லட்சம் புத்தகங்கள்-சுஜாதா

பகிர்வுக்கு நன்றி p_r. ரொம்ப அழகா பல விஷயங்களை தொட்டுச் சென்றிருக்கிறார். சிறப்பு.

விமர்சனம் எனச் சொல்லப்போனால் இரண்டு.
1) சுஜாதாவின் கதைகளை முழுமையாக வாசிக்க கொஞ்சம் ஆங்கிலம் நிறைய தெரிந்திருக்க வேண்டும் எனத் தோன்றுகிறது. சில பதங்கள் எல்லாம் (உதா:"மெஸ்ஸனைன்"னைத் தாண்டியதும்) தமிழ் நாட்டில் பலரும் தெரிந்திருக்க வாய்ப்பில்லை.
2) ஆரம்பத்தில் சின்ன வாக்கியங்களில் இருந்த இலங்கைத் தமிழ்ச் சுவை , பெரிய உரையாடல்களில் காணாமல் போகிறது.

Unjavirthi " short story is a perfect example.

பொதுவாக 'உஞ்ச விருத்தி'ன்னு சொன்னீங்கன்னு நினைக்கறேன்.
(ஆனந்த விகடனில் புதிய எழுத்தாளர் ஒருவரின் பரிசு பெற்ற கதை).

சுஜாதாவும் அந்தப்பெயரில் சிறுகதை எழுதி இருக்காரா?

Yes. Another story with Srirangam as back drop...with his friends Rangu etc., It's about an old man who is very stubborn and how his family treats him... nice one.

I faintly remember reading this story long back but forgot the title

Moreover, the other 'unja viruththi' -that got a 'new writer prize' from AV and I don't remember the author's name anymore - was during my school days and made me cry while reading...that's how the title is so strongly embedded in memory and I could not associate with any other story

Read " Malai Maaligai " (Kizhakku pathippagam). First ever story by Sujata which was a little disappointing for me. In spite of Ganesh & Vasanth there was something lacking. Of course, there were some funny & interesting moments with the author's signature touch.
