I don’t think so. May be some other reason.

Out of two roles in Uthama Puthiran, one role is nallavan and another is kettavan, drinking ‘somabaanam’ and all. But ‘he' never wished to act as kettavan in any films and spoil his IMAGE in any way, particularly among lady fans. Even it is dual roles, both of them will be nallavans only and will never be a kettavan. You take any films ‘he’ acted.

But for NT, he never bothered about his image and act in any role, whether it is Uthama Puthiran or Ennaippol oruvan, when one of the roles will be kettavan..

NO ! NO !

It cannot be as per your view Adiram Sir because of the following reason

1) If he never wished to act as kettavan in any films and spoil his image in anyway that too especially among lady fans, he would not have agreed for couple of such strong scenes in his 100th Film. Not just the 100th Film, even in a black and white film, he and Ms.Saroja Devi both will get intoxicated and will sing a duet in that position..Similarly, he would not have done negative role in films where he appears as gangster ...It is not that he "Never wished to act as kettavan" may be you can say, "to an extent". I think there is nothing wrong in it "he" opting for the image because that is his career and he had some ambition and plan at the political front inline with that image.

Our Nadigar Thilagam, had a different ambition. His ambition was not gaining any political mileage. He as a matter of fact tried to help and to a larger extent helped the political parties with his popularity upon their request, be it DK,DMK or Congress or even Late Smt.Janaki's party. If not Nadigar Thilagam, DMK would not have got any funds for the party. NOBODY helped DMK to get rock solid funds during their initial stage. ONLY NT helped them.

Similarly, a diluting party called Congress at that point in time attained stardom and life ONLY BECAUSE NT HELPED THEM. SO IS THE CASE WITH OTHERS..! He never expected any political favors nor misused (or) used the power of the parties to benefit himself...That's the sincerity of our NT.

Our Sidhdhar will look only for unique characterization and scope to perform the role and will not look for image because he is totally different. His aim, his ambition was totally different !
