The reply to your view is in the poster itself and that's got to be the thin thread thats going to tie up the film - Judgement on Beauty.
Let us not embark there for the moment, and discuss about it when the movie gets released. And ofcoarse, The Elephant Man by David Lynch should hold few responses for your querry too.

I consider your point quite genuine and that makes the "I" team draw another sucess step with their promotion. The underlining point is the make-up ofcoarse, but with the assembly of the colors around it gives it a dark assosiation with reality. I am awed at "I" film posters right from the very 1st one, notably the use of colors potraying a depth in them.

Finally about the poster : The above poster should have reminded you of "The name of the Rose" hooded characters. The interesting aspect of this poster is the extra-large face. Take a look at some super-hero comics front page or movie poster. Mostly the Super-Villan's face is large occupying the whole background, while the super-hero is in the middle quite smaller in size. Its interesting here as the word "I" replaces the super-hero, which also makes a personel connection with us, including the larger (ugly) face that is engulfed in dark cloudy kind of pallette.
