Jewellery To U.S.A

My dear friends, my mother - in -law, a Malaysian who is 75 years old , is going to U.S.A to see her daughter, She wants to hand over her family heirloom of jewellery to her. My friends frighten me that we are not allowed to take jewellery to U.S.A, except that what you are wearing.

I want to know how many sovereign of gold each person is allowed to take. The gold is in form of jewellery. She has about 30 sovereign of gold to give her daughter.
Can anyone help me in this matter? Calls to the US embassy goes unanswered.
