It's actually "vattil" in proper Thamizh and the 'il' eaten away in spoken colloquial language
(konjam AzhamAna thattu, to accommodate the water that soaks the carbs)...

I love those words and slang 'vatti', 'thottukiRava' 'parichu vechchu' in this song very much, which tells the smell of our land. To be honest, I would not have gone back to these songs, unless grouch asked me, so thanks to grouch.
