initial hari was fine. but Deva used left right and center and made that pattern Monotonous. Just because Deva used him , every body used him .. kumudham pol vandha kumariye and many more jaladhosham tone for all songs.. cant bear him on my ears.

Well, SPB was quite busy in multiple languages and Raja was extremely prolific - scoring for close to 50 movies a year.

So, picking Mano seems to be a logical PMP stuff - i.e. where gold-plating was not necessary. Like those 'madhura marikkozhundhu vAsams' and similar pasunEsan stuff.

Though Mano was considered by many to be mimicking SPB, I don't think he was used 'at the expense' of SPB.

OTOH, after the arrival of Mano, chances for Malaysia seemed to have gone drastically down (especially the IR numbers). Were there PMP reasons there too? (like MV focussing more on acting / producing etc) Or, was there any ladAi story?

At karakAttakkAran time (1989), it looked like all were balanced.

mAnguyile - SPB (two versions)
kudagu malai - Mano (also mundhi mundhi)
ooru vittu ooru vandhu - MV (also mAriyammA)
indha mAn - IR (also pAttAlE budhdhi)

All those reasons, app. But there are many songs which I feel now could have been done by MV, especially many Mano numbers for Rajini. And then suddenly you get a barrage of MV in Adutta Varisu (only two songs stand out).

Singaravelan is not his first film as an actor. He acted in 'Ponnu paakka porEn' (Prabu - Seetha) and pattinaththil petti (Gounder Annan was (one of) the hero(es)) before that. Not sure if there are others.
