Good one RR! The part where he demonstrates how a different raaga for "துன்பம் நேர்கையில்..." would have scared the little girl is quite amusing. His advice, especially for today's composers, is: "பொருள் உணர்ந்தால் தான் இசை அமைக்க முடியும்".

RD: I wrote about this song in 'thiraiyil ilakkiyam' series under the title, "paasamaa kObamaa". Desh for paasam and Atana for kobam. The movie 'Or iravu' was released in 1951. In some thread I discussed 'navarasam' in ragas ! Atana depicts anger and valor !

Thank you Raj I checked your writeup in "thirayil ilakkiyam", but unfortunately am not able to read it! The font I have on my system does not open it! It literally looks like 'Greek & Latin" to me!

RD: It looks like Greek and Latin to me too! With all the changes in the last seven or eight years the fonts seem to have disappeared ! May be, RR can be of help. If I remember correctly I wrote it using 'inaimathi' font and mursu anjal.
