It is refreshing to see players like Sehwag speak their mind out

    Sunil Gavaskar

VIRENDER SEHWAG is one player who speaks his mind. There is no sidestepping to questions or any diplomatic answer and he says it as he sees it.It is refreshing in a world where being on the right side is so important. In the recent IPL,which is a fine example of the saying I scratch your back you scratch mine, where players current as well as former are saying great things in print and on the airwaves about the team owners, captain, coach, but completely the opposite privately,it is a gust of a pleasant breeze to hear Viru tell it like it is.
Yes it is understandable that players will say that the team is great, the skipper is brilliant and the coach the greatest of them all since all the above mentioned have the power to make or break a career in the IPL and it takes a man with incredible self confidence to speak his mind.
Sehwag has always had that and thats why he has played in the manner that he has and has such a fabulous record. He is one who recognizes when he himself has done wrong and what he needs to do about it.
When the Delhi Daredevils were losing the early games,he understood that it was because he himself had not batted for most of the overs and if he did that then the team would have a defendable total on the board.
He berated himself publicly and then showed exactly what he meant by batting for most of the overs against the Kochi Tuskers.
He then took some fine catches and ensured that the losing streak was halted with a win and it looks like the Delhi Daredevils are back in the fray. There is no question that the right and lefthanded combo of Sehwag and Warner is a bowlers nightmare and they have a decent batting lineup after that too,but it is the second string bowling that is the main worry for the Daredevils.
It is here that the opposition are allowed to recover after the early strikes. The Daredevils fielding also is top class with Warner in particular being electric on the field and inspiring others to give that little bit more that can make the difference between a boundary and a two.
The Tuskers depend heavily on the duo of McCullum and Jayawardene to get them off to a good start and when that doesnt happen then they falter.Jadeja has been batting well and deserves a promotion up the order because of the good striking form he is in.The disappointment is that Brad Hodge hasnt got into his stride as yet. Here is a batsman with a terrific record who can change the direction of the game but perhaps the slow pitches havent allowed him to fully display his talent. If Hodge comes good then the pressure will be off Jayawardene.
The elegant Lankan knows that like Sehwag he too has to bat most of the overs if his team are to get 150-plus and so his batting is curbed to some extent with that knowledge but Hodges return to form will let him play more freely. The team is batting dependent and the bowling is ordinary in a format where bowlers get clobbered anyway.Kochis fielding too is well below accepted standards and thats why they are languishing behind when at one stage they were in the top four.
It is a must win game for them, but with the Daredevils having staged a turnaround of sorts it is going to be an uphill climb for the Kerala guys.

Speaking your mind is alright. Infact, I admire Viru for his forthrightness. But when you are captain, nAn dhAn kAppathaNum doesn't build a good team. Smartness is required. Coming good against kochi, mumbai, chennai pOndra weak bowlers(mumbai have one bowler and chennai about 1.5, they score with their fielding) doesn't validate that outburst. Do it against Rajasthan then we can give him some credit

like to share some comments from FB:
Anban: when Venugopal Rao was hopelessly trying to slog at the other end with the RR touching 11, Sehwag smiled. He must have thought, "why is he trying so much, when I am there .. "
Bennylava: And when he scores for DD it is even more astounding, because when he bats for India we assume that he has the freedom to play his shots because of the strong batting order to follow, but batting like the way he did, in this line up... takes a lot of courage and responsibility!

Hey i didn't see the match sourav but I saw the highlights. Sema adi. Didn't care about the field and just kept in playing his shots. This should help us taking it into England Test tour. He carefully avoided Ishanth and steyn and went after the other bowlers. Mishra deserves credit here as he almost got him out twice.
