watched only Social Network, Shutter Island, Fighter from the list. personal favorite Bardem-oda padam paarthadhukkappram vote/opinion eluthuven...True Grit too, downloading going on...

though i dissed Shutter Island after the first watch, i could find merits in Kaappiri's perfo and the film too appealed better to me.

Ryan Gosling in Blue Valentine -

Years back I thought the boy in "The Believer" is destined for greatness. Proved right.

    Williams likewise.

Great acting in an otherwise one-time-watch feature.

Also, extremely impressed by Clooney in "The American". It's the kind of performance that wouldn't be seen as 'award worthy' (the moment towards the end as he drives back to the spot is excellent), but it has such personality that it'd live for ages. Not quite Delon (Le Samourai) though.

Bridges is OK in True Grit.

I'd easily have Gosling in place of him or Jesse Eisenberg among the Oscar noms.

Either way, without having really seen both performances, Bardem should fight out with Firth.

The women category seems far more impressive this year.

Haven't seen Benning (The kids are all right), but other four (Kidman, Lawrence, Williams, and Portman) were all memorable. Would tilt towards Kidman, slightly ahead of Williams IMHO.

Want to see that. Seeing that it's a minimalistic film, no wonder it's gone off the radar as against Franco's.

Firth is excellent in King's Speech. One of the best male performances this year. His and Gosling's in Blue Valentine (neglected by Academy - dimwits!) are laudable so far (I'm sure Bardem's would join the list. Saw the clip of him breaking down to his daughter. Whoa ). And on Speech, terrific supporting performances by Rush, Carter and Pearce.

    Fighter next.

    Christian Bale in Fighter

Melissa Leo equally impressive. Amy Adams very good. Wahlberg - good enough.

Pretty good feature film, but ultimately wanes in comparison to classics of the sport.
