my cents: IR cannot be blamed for not having an astute business sense, in the present times - as Kamal said abt him 'avarukku vyaabaaram theriyaadhu' - at the same time, NOT having a sound business sense, does not strip him away from his unparalleled genius!

in the ultimate analysis, its perhaps the cash ringing in, that matters - even there, am not sure if IR has ever failed a producer/director who came to him for a genuine creative output, as GVM did !

OK Guys. Lets get out of the speculative sales stuff and get back to the topic of this thread.

Just heard from a friend that the Malayalam magazine, 'Vanitha' has a 5 page interview of Raja. The person interviewing him is Sathyan Anthikad. I don't know about this magazine and not sure if it has an online presence. Can someone find this out and do a simple translation for the rest of us. Would love to know what Sathyan asks Raja. (app and rajaalltheway are the obvious targets.)

Sakkarakatti is not a super duper hit album. The only big name in that film was ARR. Hero/Heroine/Director were newcomers. And you know how the film was. Enlisted by Times Magazine as 'One film you must watch before you die'. (Because after watching it you may not be alive). In spite of all this, the album was a hit. Reason, you know. I don't think any MD operating now can manage that feat.

Somebody pointed out James Vasanthan and Subramaniapuram. The movie was a super hit and hence the song(s) got a reach. What happened to his Naanayam and Yaadhumagi?

Sakkarakatti,ARR was the only thing remembered about that crap film.inspite of that audio was chartbuster(ajay notepannumjga).there are albums like varanam ayiram,paiya where film succes also played role
Btw be CD sales/hit songs its actually a rare feat at that time for non star/shankar/mani film particularly before movie release album has generated big hype only to dissappoint with otherwise lame picture

As Nerd and irir rightly pointed out, sales has nothing to do with quality (Even Nakka Mukka and Kolaveri have set some sort of records). That's why in ARR threads, we hardly discuss sales numbers. You know how the whole discussion started here.
