Even as a fan of IR and Kamal, I would like to violently protest this apportioning of credit. The people to take credit for Parvathi Pa Rameshwaram are 1) K Vishwanath 2) VSR Murthy, the lyricist. I dont think IR had any input into it, except setting the tune as requested, and Kamal probably simply enacted it. The idea, vision belongs to the above two people from whatever I have heard and read. Suresh65 can confirm. I think SPB and KV spoke about it in a Paadutha Theeyaga Episode and Suresh might have a youtube link.

Coincidence - kaalaila dhAn playlistla vandhudhu. One of the few songs where I can ignore the IR version. Not like Kannin Paarvai where deivakuzhandhai simply outshines Rasa with her singing. In this case, it is more of Mahathi's voice and expression somehow suiting the raw, unrefined, in your face bombastic pain.
