Unless someone puts a strong "kadivALam", I can easily list 1000 numbers from IR alone that one should not miss in lifetime

Thanks A_E and Venkikram and baroque and TVS!!
I think we should keep this list to only thamizh songs and see how far we go.
Criteria in my mind - please feel free to debate on this...
    1. It should have really moved you.
    2. It should have really spoken to you personally.
    3. It should have made you say wow.
    4. It should have decent enough lyrics
    5. It should have the hallmarks of the composer - GR means pizinjufy and provide the beauty of a raaga or a trademark ganeer melody, MSV means soothing lilting music, KVM means catchy tune, Raasa means all round composition (prelude + tune +interlude + orchestration), Rahman means very catchy melody .. again no hard and fast, but the numbers should immediately point to the composer.
    6. Uniqueness and originality - inspiration is allright - but not copy .
Apparently, a democracy is a place where numerous elections are held at great cost without issues and with interchangeable candidates.

பாலா's solo is out of the world composition will satisfy all criteria
flute , strings , guitar orchestration , early இளையராஜா's masterpiece second interlude counterpoint flute and violin..lyrics is fantastic.

our guitar strumming Ilayaraaja's fine violin orchestration... humming and the elongation of the sudhdhanyasi tune

What a prelude, Only Raaja can compose!

    தெய்வீக ராகம் தெவிட்டாத பாடல் கேட்டாலும் போதும் ......is next for me.
need to drive now for half hr... will check out more ILAYARAJA's sangeetham!

    jai,
    Excellent criteria!

So, the Guru (Malayalam) songs go out of the thread (ganaththa manadhudan vidai peRalAm).

The remaining eight (poonthaLirAda, madai thiRandhu, ponmAlaippozhudhu, poongathavE thAzh thiRavAi, iLaya nilA, pachcha malappoovu, sheNbagamE, EdhO mOham) stays IMSO as they all meet your criteria

So two more IR numbers to complete my initial ten :
One of the instances where NA was given totally deservingly

Earth sky etc shattering orchestration!
