1000 songs to hear before you die.

    poonthaLir aada...
It struck me in the end of the second interlude. If there is one song to bear all the Ilaiyaraaja stamps of his 80s phase - it has to be this one.
prelude with a catchy counterpoints and harmony - Check
chorus doing a counterpoint and singing out a melody that is heavenly - Check
majestic violins with sections playing different melody - Check.
Ok - lets do the same with vocal counterpoints from lead singers - Check.
Rakshasa singers SPB adn SJ - having their saamrajyam in the song - Check.
Some electronica and different melody for the interludes - Check.
Lets pause the entire thing for a while and create an effect - check.
    some awesome lyrics - check.

Only thing missing is a single carnatic violin and an aaalaap by raaja or TVG.
I think everything else is almost covered.
It seemed like some1 asked Raaja "whats new in your music" and Raaja did the song to simply tell them ' TAKE THAT'.
The ultimate benefactor was P.Vasu and Santhana bharathy!!!
This is one song I want to listen before I die or loose my sense of hearing...
Apparently, a democracy is a place where numerous elections are held at great cost without issues and with interchangeable candidates.

My choice would be " mounamela noyie" telugu version of mounamana neram. If god blesses me with some musicality just enough to sing one song,my choice is this.
SPB and SJ known for their bright voices, for a change, I guess, have been asked to sing this song as if rendering a secret.
Flute can't ROCK but here it does.
The initial humming of SJ is undescribable. though the song begins in a very unassuming and simple manner just takes of splendidly.
the interludes between and after manathil osaigal .... idhazhil mounangal ..typical IR-ish...
Beautifull picturisation of the song and KH and JP at their best...feel like asking them " man !why are you both so good looking ?".

    Perfect Audio -visual treat.

Jai, the truth is, before we kick the bucket chances are, we have heard 100s and thousands of songs. Even if I were to make an appointment with the grim reaper, I would have heard more than 1000 songs. I guess you are saying that on the day when we finally bite the big one, these are the 1000 songs to remember? I doubt it. On my dead bed I probably be cursing the Harris Jeyaraj tribute going on the radio that I have no power to switch off.

Ideal title would be, maybe, 100 songs you would want to have when you are stuck in a deserted Island.

grouch, I think what jai intends to is to compile songs that he(or other participants) think that should be heard by anyone before they die.
However, this concept never works out in practice as a thread. It will not be long before people will start suggesting mumba jumba, rabbu rabbu etc. And the thread will peter out...

Athathaan en savu bed-la avoid pannanumnu sonnen.

Anyway, my list would probably comprise of:

    40% IR
    20% MSV(&TKR)
    20% Ingliss songs
    5% KVM
    5% ARR
    5% Others from 50s-70s
5% Others from 80s to present.

grouch, what I meant by way of explanation was that what I think jai meant is NOT a bucket list(as in have these songs handy for your death bed) but hear these atleast once from now to before you die. That is, songs to seek out and experience. Sort of like the participants collectively combine their wisdom and set out on a quest to fill in the mutual gaps.
That is why I said in my experience, these threads die out due to dilution.

I guess the thread title was to have some shock value (DEATH - the shocker - which people expect in good doses from any TF).

I think the meaning / interpretation is "songs that you should not miss out in life" (whether 100 or 1000 or 10000 or 100000)

    "நான் சொல்ற இந்த ஆயிரம் பாட்டில் ஒன்னை மிஸ் பண்ணீருந்தாக்கூட நீ வாழ்க்கையில் எல்லாத்தையும் இழந்துட்டே"ன்னு ஜெய் சொல்றாரோ என்னமோ
