More teeth to Super Kings attack!
Sunday, Jan 09 2011
Bangalore: The Chennai Super Kings strengthened their bowling attack considerably by picking up Aussie fast bowler Ben Hilfenhaus besides New Zealand all-rounder Scott Styris as among the main buys on the second and concluding day of the Indian Premier League player auction, here on Sunday.
Among those retaining their spots in the team were seamers Joginder Sharma and Sudeep Tyagi, while Sri Lankans Nuwan Kulasekara and Suraj Randiv were the other new face in the team.
Meanwhile, frontline seamer Lakshmipathy Balaji moved to Kolkata Knight Riders for 500,000 US Dollars after Super Kings pulled out of the bidding at 475,000 US Dollars.
Also out of the Super Kings squad were South African all-rounder Justin Kemp, Kiwi seamer Jacob Oram, South African fast bowler Makhaya Ntini and Sri Lankans Thilan Thushara and Chamara Kapugedera, all of whom received no bids.

Styris (base price 100,000), the Brisbane-born Kiwi was the first to get into the Super Kings squad this morning when Super Kings outbid Kochi and secured him for 200,000.
All-rounder Randiv, who bowls off-breaks, had a base price of 50,000 and Super Kings won him at 80,000.
The Super Kings, winners of the 2010 IPL and Champions League trophies, had eight Indian and as many foreign players when the auction went into a lunch break.
The players:
Retained: Mahendra Singh Dhoni, Suresh Raina, Murali Vijay and Albie Morkel (South Africa).
Auction: Indians - Wridhiman Saha (100,00 USD), Ravichandran Ashwin (850,000), Subramaniam Badrinath (800,000), Joginder Sharma (150,000) and Sudeep Tyagi (240,000).
Foreigners: – Michael Hussey (Australia, 425,000), Doug Bollinger (Australia, 700,000), Ben Hilfenhaus (Australia, 100,000), all Australians; Dwayne Bravo (West Indies, 200,000), Scott Styris (New Zealand, 200,000), Nuwan Kulasekara (Sri Lanka, 100,000) and Suraj Randiv (Sri Lanka, 80,000).

The 26-year-old all-rounder has been included in the Proteas squad to take on India in five ODIs, and looks assured of game time as the selectors look to firm up their plans for the World Cup.
