paatu cholli from azhagi.
Lyric writer Ilaiyaraaja too comes to the party here.
Fantastic lines and since he is the lyric writer here, conjures up a beautiful passage for the verses and the shrill flutes to strike up a counterpoint that really is magical.
Sadhana sargam - has the sargam in her name to go along with the sadhana which reflects on her crystal clear diction. Awesome singer and a well deserved national award for her...
Apparently, a democracy is a place where numerous elections are held at great cost without issues and with interchangeable candidates.

Several heard recently but having a block writing about those. All gems vonly but I am unable to articulate.
- degam siragadikkum(naane raja naane mandhiri): overlooked in the presence of the mesmerising mayanginEn solla thayanginEn, the pleasures of this expression of first flush of love in a female with Chitra's youthful, energetic, apposite singing is a revealation
- isaiyil thodangudhamma(hey ram): what beauty! This is a Picasso painting, Beethoven Symphony, Thyagaraja composition, all rolled into one. And the lyrics by thalaivar himself are awesome too. Since Feeyar has written an incomparable short post on this, I will not attempt to.
- raasavE unnai vida mAttEn. What a soundscape Raja paints here. The second interlude with (what is that instrument) playing a fast sequence of notes as though a bee were buzzing about a flower extracting honey, followed by a soulful (synthetic) flute and Janaki humming "Aaaa" upto kikkI kinni endru vaNNa kiLi - sheer divinity. You are actually inside the heart of a woman in love at that point. The song, besides being a lovely melody, orchestrates to the point of minute emotions, and brings longing, flush of love, world around looking beautiful just in the flush of love, desparate sense of attachment and yearning to hold on to that love and a lot more. Who said music cannot substitute writing? No amount of writing can do justice to what this song accomplishes.
- heard sumam prati sumam again(after a long time..infact last time i wrote about it, I hadnt heard it in a long time, and this is the first time I am hearing after that also which means a pretty long time). What a divine beauty of a song! Give me this, and give me menaka, ramba and urvashi on the other hand(ofcourse youth versions of those - they must be several million years old now, no?) and I'll choose this song any day of the week
More later

"mazhai kaala mEgam onRu madi oonjaLadiyathu" - epitome of an effective popular music. Good balance of arrangements+ ok tune+ catchiness. Typical IR prelude with opportunity for a slow motion shot . The arrangement is very interesting with 3 variations - just drums alone, drums + congas, drums+native drum (hand drum?). The native/ethnic sounding part seems to have been added/twist provided to make the very stylish drums+guitar driven song more down to earth or appealing to the local audience (the risque lyrics also should ). SPB sings with aplomb, like a real hero singing.
This combination of drums is what I miss in recent outputs, compared to these type of songs .. the rhythm is not very imaginative.
