Well I was rewatching "Vaidegi Kaathirunthal" the other day.
Always remember "rasathi unnai" as the "famous" song from this movie. Upon rewatching though, I think the song is what I would choose as the favourite. Particularly like the gradual layering of instruments, voice, then percussion, during the introduction.

Yes I too thought the same thing, until one day I heard "Indraikku" sung by Vani on some song program and only when I went back and searched for the song did I recognize its from the same movie. I think I overplayed "alagu malar aada" and so I will need to give it some time again to realize its charm.Originally Posted by prashanth12
After tasting the sweet nandhaa nee en nilaa song on you tube, I was somehow reminded in charanam by a Raaja masterpiece "Ellorum sollum paattu" the moody melancholic song from "Marupadiyum". That set me off for the rest of the day just singing this song. It pulls at the heart so much that one cannot get out of the song at all fully. Then went off to do some lazy google researching that infomed me about the raaga of the song - sarasaangi. I dont know much about the raaga and its intricacies, but many google sources spoke about the ability of the raaga to pull the tugs of the heart by the raaga. Which led me to the last point in the journey (for the day) - All sarasaangi songs by Raaja in thiraipaadal.
What a Treat!!!!!!!
There you go for a solid 2 hours (counting twice that you are gonna hear these songs).

As usual with ilaiyaraaja, the has mostly used the raaga for lighter situations, romance etc., instead of using the raaga's innate quality to mellow down the heart and the cherry on top of the cake is "Endrendrum aanandhamE" - a club song in sarasaangi - which is a surprise if you count in the reactions from the www and youtube.
Apparently, a democracy is a place where numerous elections are held at great cost without issues and with interchangeable candidates.

On that topic, there are two other songs worth noting from that same movie. "Nalam Vaazha" and "Ellorukkum Nalla Kaalam". Both very contextual songs with lovely lyrics and composition. "Marupadiyum" is a great example of a director getting the most of the MD in terms of film-appropriate songs, but then, thats expected of Balu Mahendra.

you have got a musical brain then...nandha en nila is madhuvanthi / dharmavathi - it is not surprising that you dived to 'ellorum sollum paattu' in Sarasangi, as Sarasangi, Dharmavati and Chakravakam are all part of one grahabedham faimily - that is, when the aadhara sadjam is shifted, sarasangi yields dharmavathi / chakravagam.
