Raja's Gems - the latest one you heard...Part 3

Some songs are usually taken for granted and don’t get the attention it deserves.
One such a song that got my step motherly treatment over the most obviously preferred darling “sorgam madhuvile” was “azha kadalil thediya muthu” from 70’s kamal masala “sattam en kaiyil”. This song has that sweetness with innocence of vintage Raja all over it. With SJ and MV during their prime time , Raja’s endearing melody, kannadasan’s cute lyrics how did Kamal afford to miss this one is a long time mystery .

Very nice writeup about the 'solla thudikkudhu manasu' song. And what to say about 'vasantha kaala kolangal' that Param posted. Looks like Kannadasan casually dictated the whole song as he was hearing the tune !!

And thumburu, yes, 'aazha kadalil thediya muthu' is a gem indeed.

Currently still stuck in the songs of 'Sengathu Bhoomiyile' and 'Ponnar Shankar'. Can't still come out of them. Had written a blog post on a Mayamalavagowla based Hindi song and mentioned in my blog that no one has used this ragam as effectively as Raja. And coincidentally one of the TV channels telecasted 'kadhal kavidhaigal ezhudhidum neram' which is also based on the same ragam. What an amazing song. Everything is perfect in this. Raja tune, orchestration, the innovations, the singers, the orchestration. Everything.

மலர்களிலே ஆராதனை... கரும்பு வில்

என்னே ஒரு உருவாக்கம்! ராஜாவின் இசையில் ஆரம்பமே அசத்தும். வயலின்கள் இசைக்க நாமெல்லாம் அந்தரத்தில் வானுயரே சென்றுகொண்டே இருப்பது போல உணர்வு. ஜானகியின் மிருதுவான குரல் ஒரு புறம், மலேசியா வாசுதேவனின் தடித்த குரல் இன்னொரு புறம்....இந்த வேற்றுமை சரியாய் ஃயுஷன் ஆகியிருக்கிறது. ஜானகி ஒவ்வொரு முறையும் "மலர்களிலே.." என உச்சரிக்கும் போது வெளிப்படுத்தும் சங்கதிகள் தேவதையின் மடியில் தலைவைத்து உறங்குவதற்கு சமமான ஒரு நிறைவு. வீணை, தபேலா, வயலின், கிடார், சந்தூர் என ஆரோக்யமான தலைவாழை சமையல் ராஜாவிடமிருந்து.

வெண்ணிலா ஓடுது கண்ணிலே ஆடுது - நாளை உனது நாள் (1984 )

சிறுவயது நினைவுகள் ஒவ்வொன்றாக மலர்ந்தது இதைக் கேட்டு. .. அரபு நாட்டிலிருந்து உறவினர் வாங்கி அனுப்பிய ஒரு டேப் ரெக்கார்டர்.. நேஷனல் என்ற பெயரில் .. சோனி, மேக்ஸல் கேசட்டுக்களில் பதிவு செய்து கேட்ட தருணங்கள்.. யேசுதாஸ் - வாணி குரல்களில் அழகான மெலடி.

அண்ணாமலை படம் வெளியான நேரத்தில் தேவா "கொண்டையில் தாழம்பூ" பாடலை "வெண்ணிலா ஓடுது கண்ணிலே ஆடுது" என்ற இந்தப் பாடலிலிருந்து சுட்டுவிட்டார் என எனது அடிமட்ட இசையறிவைப் பயன்படுத்தி நண்பர்களிடம் பிளிறிய காலமெல்லாம் உண்டு.

Great selections venkki! Malaragalile Aarathanai. When violins are being played in the first interlude, suddenly but slowly the flute comes to foreground. Vintage stuff. On the contrary, Raja plays guitar in the second interlude for this classical song. Innovation at the best. What a tune! I love when MV completes the song with 'காதலின் வேதனை'. எல்லா ஜீவனும் அந்த இரு வார்த்தைகளில் கொண்டு வந்திருப்பார்.

Vkrish, beautiful songs. Use to frequently listen to these songs, especially 'poonkaatinodum' for that mesmerising tune and melting KJY singing. They belong to a special category where popular songs can also be rare gems.
