Very sad to know this event. May her soul rest in peace and God comfort her family in their hour of grief

Jikki's passing away is really sad. She is one of the immortals of TFM and had a long and successful career until P. Suseela, TMS, MSV (with and without TKR) became the de facto standards in TFM in the sixties. Her voice was a little nasal - but a very sweet voice.

I can never understand why a proven singer like Jikki (or her husband, A.M. Raja) just fades away after a while. It is not because of old age reducing her skills or anything like that.

May her soul rest in peace.

Jikki is a great singer. I think she has got this special 'huskiness' to her voice which makes it all the more special and unique. I think most of the songs sung by her are great ones! As Mr.Saravanan had said, inspite of her fame, she was very humble and polite till the end.

Though people might consider her as a light music singer, she proved her skills in classical rendition as well (in the Telugu version of 'Thesulaavudhe...').

I pray that her soul rests in peace and that her wonderful songs remain amidst us forever!

Btw, "Naan Sirithaal Deepavali" was by Rajeswari and Jamuna Rani.

I listen to her songs almost every day. It is like one of the family members had passed away. She and AMR are among the best singers TFM ever had. May her soul RIP.
BTW which is her first tamil song? Is it `Arul Thaarum Theva Maatha" from Gnanasoundari or "Minnalai pole en kathal rajan" from Kaithi? Or anything else?

May her soul rest in peace ..

She should have got much more recognition.. In "Times of India " Bangalore edition, her demise is mentioned in a small column that too in 4th or 5th page. I really felt bad .. She was equally famous in all southern languages in 50's.
other than her movie songs she is very famous in the xian community for her devotional songs..
U must hear the " rajasekara " from the film "anArkali" with ghantasala.

a.a, her first Tamil song was 'arul thaarum deva maathave' in which she sings the first few lines and P.A.Perianayagi takes over later.

This is a news clip from dhinaththanthi mentioning Jikki's passing away. It is sad to know that she had been suffering from breast cancer for the last few years. Death was probably a relief for her. May her soul rest in peace.

    AruL thaarum dheva maadhaave(Gnana soundhari)

She was my favourite singer. May her soul rest in peace. The first cinema song I learnt was 'aruL thaarum dheva maadhaave'. I was in 5th or 6th standard when the movie Gnanasoundhari was released. To perpetuate her memory I will post the lyrics for some of her songs periodically.

aruL thaarum dheva maadhaave aadhiye inba jothiye aadhiye inba jothi
iruL neengave ika meedhile eedilaa nidhiye gathiye
    iruL neengave...
    arul thaarum...
thiruve thuNai neeye thiruve thuNai neeye
dheva thaaye iniyaai vinai theeraai kaNN paaraai aadhiye..
    vaanin dhevadhaiye aruLvaai mariye
thenin melaam padhanidhe jeevaadhaarame padhanidhe jeevaadhaarame
    aruL thaarum....

    saravanan: help me with details.
