Doubt about the song "Oru Koottu Kiliyaga from Padikkat

If you listen to the song "Oru Koottu Kiliyaga" from Padikkathavan, Malaysia Vasudevan has sung most parts of the song "Off Shruthi", especially in the second Charanam. No doubt it is an excellent song.

Was it a deliberate ploy by IR to make MV sing like that because he was singing for an old Sivaji Ganesan in that movie?
