‘Never favoured beef ban’: BJP’s balancing act in Kerala, Bengal

“If I win, I will start good slaughterhouses here”, says Kerala BJP leader

“Give me votes, I will start good slaughterhouses here” – This is the winning slogan for N.Sriprakash, the BJP candidate for the byelection to the Malappuram Lok Sabha constituency in Kerala. His stand on beef, which is diametrically opposite to that of his party leaders in North India, was revealed during a meet-the-press event held here on Saturday. When asked about the BJP’s stand regarding beef, especially the Gujarat Government’s bill to award life-term for cow slaughter, he said that his party is not against the consumption of “good beef”.

Double Standards: BJP Promises 'No Ban' On Beef If It Wins Polls In Northeast States

“Ban on cow slaughter like the one in UP won’t take effect in Nagaland if our party comes to power next year. The reality here is very different and our central leaders are aware of that,” Nagaland BJP chief Visasolie Lhoungu told Hindustan Times. “There would be no ban on cow slaughter in Mizoram and other states in the region where there is a majority Christian population,” Mizoram BJP president JV Hluna said.

Bishop Franco Mulakkal and Kerala nun rape case: the story till now

A nun’s rape and victimisation charges against Jalandhar Bishop Franco Mulakkal of the Syro-Malabar Church [of Kerala] has landed the numerically strong church into the vortex of its worst crisis in recent history.

The Bishop was relieved of his duties and later arrested for questioning by the Kerala police after a few nuns staged a sit-in protest demanding action against the accused Bishop.

On October 15, 2018, the Bishop was given conditional bail in the case. Here, we look at the events that transpired ever since the scandal broke.
