Tamils should speak in "Tamil" with much pride

I don't know if we have a thread to gripe about the Tamil in the media. So I am just posting here.

Among the several things I hate is the usage of the suffix - கூடிய

எதுக்கு பயன்படுத்துறதுன்னே இல்லாம சகட்டுமேனிக்கு சொல்றாங்க

நடந்திருக்ககூடிய அப்படின்னா அந்த நிகழ்வுக்கு ஒரு சாத்தியம் இருக்கு அப்படின்னு தானே அர்த்தன்.

டிவி தொகுப்பாளர்: 'சென்னை வந்திருக்கும் பிர்ணாப் முகர்ஜி'னு சொல்றதுக்கு பதில் 'சென்னை வந்திருக்ககூடிய பிரணாப் முகர்ஜி' 'ன்னார்.

"ஓ! அப்பொ இங்க வந்திருக்கக்கூடிய பிரணாப், வராம எங்க போனார்?"னு பார்த்தா குண்டுகட்டையா அவர் சென்னைல அணிவகுப்பி மரியாதை ஏத்துகிட்டு வர்றதை காட்டிகிட்டு இருதாங்க. லைவ் கமெண்ட்ரி: "அணிவகுப்பு மரியாதை ஏற்றுக்கொண்டிருக்கக்கூடிய காட்சியை பார்த்துக்கொண்டிருக்கிறோம்"

அவதானம் observation
அதுக்கு இணையா என்ன வார்த்தை. கவனம்னும் சொல்றாங்க. ஆனா அந்த வார்த்தைக்கு attentionனு தான் அர்த்தம் தோணுது.
Of course, literary pomposityஐ கிண்டல் பண்றதுக்காகவும் பயன்படுத்தலாம்.

There's this new TV advert (not sure which product) where they say "amma adipin-needuvaanga" for ('adip-pinneeduvaanga').

I think they just transliterate and have the same kid dub everything to finish in one stretch.
You can see literal and, thus artificial, pronunciation: 'pogAthE' pronounced fully.

Another thing that annoys me is Hindian syntax for dubbed ads.
And it is not even for dubbing sync reasons. Sometimes they are not showing ppl on screen and u hear a voiceover. You can jolly well speak proper Tamil (you need anyway 'ngradhu vERa vishayam) but still you see moronic Tamil-in-Hindi syntax.

Perhaps because this dubbing is usually outsourced in Matunga to a set of professionals, who probably will go to grave believing that this is the right way to speak tamil . I have heard usually it is a family enterprise to maximise profit(guess. These are fixed price contracts)

gavanakkurippu kelvippattadhillai... but observe means ulvaangudhal no?
but i want to use gavanakkuvippu... especially for concentrate/focus..

அவதானம் is a word that came from the சிறுபத்திரிக்கை world. And it was used for observation. Like சமூகவியல் அவதானம்- sociological observation...by extension it is also kinda used to mean inference - for which I like the word கண்டடைவு.

I may be wrong, but I think அவதானம் is also used to mean 'attention, ஜாக்கிரதை' etc. in Sri Lanka. Vaguely remember it being used to the effect in the media other. Others can confirm.

In general I saw very Sanskrit-y words there, which feel odd (நகர அபிவிருத்தி சபை for City development council). Felt very odd. Imagine, that's how things may have remained in TN too had it not been for the pioneers who took the lead, and would have no doubt faced so much ridicule, in finding very Tamil words for everyday expressions.

To give another example, the ராசிபலன் in SL said 'தேகசுகம் நன்றாக இருக்கும்'. Immediately struck me as odd. We would find உடல்நலம் much more comfortable and natural than தேகசுகம். Just imagine the early-mid 20th century when people tried using உடல்நலம் here. How much flak they'd've faced for causing 'unnecessary hassle'. And today we owe a greater debt to them than we are conscious of.
