Why Baahubali, why not Visaaranai? A critic’s view of National Awards

By Gautaman Bhaskaran; Hindustan Times, March 29, 2016

"A far better choice in the Best Film category could have been Vetrimaaran’s Visaaranai -- a brutally powerful look at police highhandedness that premiered at the Venice Film Festival in 2015."

National Awards are complete farce this year: Director of Chauthi Koot

“All the main awards have gone to commercial films. Baahubali, which is a totally crap film has got the Best Film award. I think it is a BJP award and not National Award,”

    From obscurity to the limelight

Presenting the National Award to films in languages such as Wancho, Maithili and Kurukh helps us understand little-known cultures.
