Oh yes ofcourse. indha mAdhiri padangaLLa son character dummyA pOyidum but kudos to Rajini for shining in both roles. One funny moment - i have said this before - but worth recalling for new audience is
Son: unga mugathiraya kizhikkAtti, nAn ungaLukku poRakkalai
Chakravarthy: dei, un thittathai muRiyadikKAtti, nee enakku poRakkalai
Deleted shot:
Lakshmi: mothathula appanum piLlaiyum en character-ai asinga padutharadhunnu mudivu paNNittInga.

as u mentioned u did not hav a good impression on ur first watch of TM which u watched after watching gomaal... i was wonderin how matured u were in those years... adhaan andha reaction poten...
now it appears that u were not impressed with TM for many other factors when u watched it around 95s and only recently a rewatch made u realize that there is not subtlety which was present in golmaal...

I agree and at the same time I realized for Rajini things got worse only after Baasha. Before that it was okay I thought even when he was superstar. For example I watched thambikku endha ooru, recently. Rajini really acted well in that movie and that point in time he had taken commercial route with not much importance given to substance. Even with that restriction Rajini was still able to emote well within the commercial frame.

the thread started as thillu mullu but immediately became TM VS KN and now it has become TM vs GM. We never discuss things in isolation I think.

Agree. Even when he acted in *good* commerce-targetted films like TEU / Padikkathavan / NN etc., he signed up bad ones like Paayum Puli / Ellam Un Kairaasi / Thaai meedhu sathiyam.

honestly, i had no impression or opinion during first time watch in 80s, 90s for most movies including TM and golmaal.......only director i could recognise was Maniratnam since his films looked relevant to me and visual texture was glaringly futuristic from others......when u revisit or recap those movies and fit them into opinion, value system framework that you have acquired then u get the reason for like/dislike of a movie....
