Kollywood - 2009 Half Yearly report!
    By Moviebuzz | Monday, 06 July , 2009, 10:36

In Kollywood there have been 53 releases in the first six months of 2009 (January 1 to June 30) of which 9 will recover their cost or make profits. Compare this with last year’s figure for the first six months of the year, there were 61 (out of the total 119 in 2008) and 10 of them were profitable.

It has been very encouraging year for movies made on a small budgets of Rs 3 to Rs 5 crore budget, as the success of Siva Manasulla Sakthi, Yaavarum Nalam,Vennila Kabadi Kuzhu, Pasanga, Nadodigal illustrate. The biggies except for Suriya’s Ayan and Dhanush’s Padikkathavan have all failed to cover the cost of production and marketing.

The 10 most successful films at the box-office are

    1. Ayan- Blockbuster
    2. Padikkathavan- Super Hit
    3. Yaavarum Nalaam- Hit
    4. Siva Manasulla Sakthi- Hit
    5. Nadodigal*- Hit
    6. Maasilamani- Hit
    7 Vennila Kabadi Kuzhu- Hit
    8 Pasanga- Above Average
    9 Maayandi Kudumbathaar- Average
    10. Arundathi (Dubbed)** -Hit

    * Early days, how big hit it turns out, can be known only later as the film released on June 26.

** It’s a Telugu dubbed film purchased at a high price, but did well in B & C markets.

Rating Card From January 1 to June 30, 2009

Number One film at the Box- Office- Ayan
Critics Choice, Critically the best- Pasanga
    Numero Uno Superstar - Suriya
    Number One Heroine - Tamannaah
Commercially Best Director - K.V Anand- Ayan
    Pathbreaking Director - Pandiraj- Pasanga
Most Popular Song - Nenje, Nenje…, Harris Jayaraj from Ayan.
    Marketing Wizards - Sun Pictures
