I will share an interesting instance involving kavignar :P

kavignar agreed to pen the lyrics for 'avanthaan manithan' and the producers requested kavingnar to pen the lyrics immediately as the shooting was scheduled in May 1973. They kept on reminding the shooting schedule is in May but kavignar as usual was taking it lightly. One fine day they insisted that he gives the lyrics for the songs then and there only as it was already last week of April and shooting is to start in May.
Kavignar was not too pleased but he wrote the lyrics for all the songs in one stroke and gave it to MSV. After handing over the lyrics and before leaving, kavignar told the producers and MSV to take extra care of one particular song as it reflects the mood of the producers. They tried to decipher which song was that but weren't able find anything common to their mood and any of the songs.
Finally MSV realised what kavignar meant while re-recording the song and it was "anbu nadamaadum kalai koodame". Every line in the song ends with 'may', 'koodame', 'megame', 'vanname' and so on. kavignar got so pissed off with verbal reminders by the producers and emphasising about the shooting schedule in Singapore in the month of May. That was the prize for incurring kavignar's wrath :P The producers, MSV and troup had a good laugh.

That film also had other songs such as "aattuviththaal yaar oruvan", "manithan ninaipathundu". All these songs were written in one flow and under couple of hours. A genius beyond comparison

mgb, Malaya became Malaysia in 1963, Singapore was part of it then. A year later that they split.

NOV, because he likes Krishna (Kannan), so inspired by Kaalithasan.

Hmm...appadinaa, I should change my name to one of these:
    Sivajithaasan
    Brandothaasan
    Eastwoodhaasan.

    Wow. Okay, I better not.

indha series enakku romba pidicha song "moothaval nee koduththaai"

The treatment meted out to Kamaraj was irking kannadasan for a long time.. he got a chance to express it through the song situation in "Arangetram" and he didnt miss it. After the first stanza he straight away jumps to kamaraj.

    megaththaal mazhai pozhiyum megaththukku laabamenna
thyagaththaal emai valartha dheivam kanda laabamenna

thannaiye theithu tharum santhanam unthan ullam
    mannile oruvarillai mangai(mannan) unakkeedu solla
yennavo nee kidaithai yellorkkum vaazhvu thara

what an apt description of kamaraj's life and the rural upliftment he did

    then about kamaraj's personal life
    kalayana sugamumillai kadamaikku mudivumillai
yethanai iravu kandai yenna nee uravu kandai
kanmoodum velaiyilum yemmai than kanavu kandai

here he meant "kanmoodum velai" as kamaraj's sleep.. it so happened kamaraj died 2 years after this song was penned

    aanaaga piranthirundhal raajangam unathu kaiyil
pennaaga piranthuvittai naangal thaan un madiyil

read aan as literate/north indian and pen as iliterate/south indian

thanmaanam kaapaval(n) nee sanmaanam yaar tharuvaar
what a tribute to kamaraj who never even tried for the PM post and he could have easily played politics and become the PM after Nehru

but what is more amazing mgb, is the fact that the song was a T to the Pramila character in the film. only kannadhasan possible.

velan.. as far as i have heard, it was chosen in a split second by kavignar himself.. in his early days in madras, he went around with his kadhai and kavithai thoguppu to some weeklys and dailys.. one publisher was impressed with his work but he felt muthiah as a name doesnt sound like a tamil poet.. this prompted kavignar to have the pseudo name kannadasan, as he loved kannan. Later on that story was not published but he held on to the name kannadasan and used it in his first publication in 'Thirumagal'

but sometimes he goes beyond the sequence in the film and gets carried away in what he wanted to tell.. like for example "nalamthaana" song..
he wanted to enquire arignar anna about his well being after he heard anna was unwell but he didnt want to go and meet as he was angry with anna for having defeated kamaraj.
kan pattadhaal un meniyile pun pattadho andhai naan ariyen
pun patta sedhiyai kettavudan indha pen patta paattai yaar arivaar

in the film, padmini actually had witnessed sivaji being stabbed.. so she cannot say "pun patta sedhiyai kettavudan".. but kavignar wanted to tell "after he heard about anna's health condition" so he went ahead with that line
