Much better song, Neel. Any details on M.A.Raveendran? He is not the late mallu Raveendran right.

RR,
I believe that it is the same Raveendran, especially considering that this is an all out KSC album.
Did you mean "kAthal paingkiLiyE" is much better than "vA iLaiyavanE"?

Yes. The other one sounded ordinary prolly because of the standard of songs you've been hosting recently.

mAmAnggam Achchu (Nilaavai Kaiyile Pidichen)
Pick #600
Song: mAmAnggam Achchu
Film: Nilaavai Kaiyile Pidichen
Music: Vijay Anand
Singer: K.S.Chithra
Lyrics: One of (Gangai Amaran, Vaali, Vairamuthu)
Year: 1987
It is not very often one comes across an item number sung by KSC. That is what makes this song special. Naayanam and Thavil already written into the story, Vijay Anand makes use of the instruments to give a regular item number a slightly different flavor.
"Nilaavai Kaiyile Pidichen" is a very entertaining comedy directed by Rama.Narayanan starring Chandrasekar, Seetha, Rasi, Vinu Chakravarthi, S.S.Chandran, Deepan, Radharavi and others. Vinu Chakravarhti is paNNaiyAr in a village, the richest man in the suththuppattu pathinettu patti. He is frequently referred to as "villAthi villan vengkala karuppan". It is neither scary nor funny. It is so annoying it actually becomes funny. His wife is so comically vain she wears the price tags on everything - her necklace, ear rings, eye glasses, saree, everything . Vinu is just as vain, when he comes to preside the village panjchAyaththu he comes riding an elephant, does the interrogation sitting on it, delivers the verdict still sitting on it and then rides back. He has two children Seetha and Deepan, educated in the city, and they come home for vacation. In the village, Seetha ill-treats the farm workers and Rasi, a poor village girl, confronts her about her arrogance.
Deepan falls in love with the low-caste Rasi and she gets pregnant. Seetha learns about this and tells the couple that she will talk to her father and get his acceptance for their marriage. "panjchAyaththu" is called. Vinu comes on his elephant . Seetha, who is actually holding a grudge against Rasi for insulting her in front of the farm workers, changes color in the panjchAyaththu and says that Rasi could have gotten pregnant by anybody and that she is girl of bad character who should be kicked out of the village. Vinu agrees and declares that Rasi will have to leave the village and no one in the village should help her in any way thereafter. Rasi's father is heartbroken and dies. Rasi moves out of the village and stays with the do-gooder Pakkiri(Radharavi). Pakkiri is a disabled man with only one leg. He keeps referring to himself as "pichchuvA pakkiri vechchupputtAn kaththiri", which is neither scary nor funny. It is so annoying it actually becomes funny. Pakkiri goes to Vinu's house and requests that Deepan marry Rasi. Vinu throws him out of the house and puts Deepan under house arrest. Pakkiri challenges that he will make happen a marriage between Deepan and Rasi.
One fine day, a group of musicians, a nAyana gOshti, arrives in the village in a convertible. There are four of them. Chandrasekar who plays the nAyanam, S.S.Chandran who plays the thavil, and two sidekicks with asattu faces, one plays the second nAyanam and the other plays the cymbals. All wearing vEtti, thuNdu, kadukkaN, kungkuma pottu and shoulder-length hair. They buy a small house in the village, convert into a palace and start living there. They brush their teeth with golden brush and bathe in rose water. They dress up like Maharajas and have Disco Shanti over to dance item number while Chandrasekar plays the nAyanam and S.S.Chandran plays the thavil. They tell the villagers about all their royal lineage, international connections, businesses, enormous wealth and that they play music only for fun. Their alattal and bandha are silly but hillllllarious. Vinu and Seetha are attracted to their wealth and decide that Seetha marry Chandrasekar. They talk to Chandrasekar and he agrees. The two are married. (To be continued...)
The album has at least five songs that are good, though not necessarily exciting. But then one cannot expect a "Naan Adimai Illai" from a low-budget comedy flick.
This song wraps up KSC week.
