When telugu version (dubbed) of VKB released. this movie often telecast in Teja TV. Dubbed version of Parashakti and Manohara included in NT filmography, VKB (telugu) not included. Also NT acted in Bhakta Ramadasu with ANR released during 1964. I think this is not included

abkhlabhi, I am curious to know who dubbed NT's voice. I mean who had the guts to fill in the simmakuralan for those versions?

actor Jaggaiah dubbed NT voice. Most of the Telugu NT films he only given voice. His voice is more or less resembles Great Telugu Singer Gantasala

As much as I like Gandasala's singing, I don't think I could sit through NT's film with someone else's voice. Must be a tough chore for Jaggaiah to at least pull off 50% of the vocal performance.

Since we used to be with NT voice, not so comfortable in watching NT telugu movies with someone voice. Only for his acting and body language, I used see. Whenever he speaks , i used to remember and tell loudly his Tamil Dialogues (dubbing movies and not direct telugu movies)

உங்களின் (ஸாரி... நம் எல்லோருடையவும்) ஃபேவரிட் படம் 'முரடன் முத்து' பற்றிய விமர்சனம் நன்றாக இருக்கிறது. முரடன் என்பதற்கு தோதாக அசல் முரடனாக வந்து அசத்தியிருப்பார். இங்கு எல்லோருக்கும் ஏற்படும் ஆச்சரியம்தான் எனக்கும். அதெப்படி ஒரே சமயத்தில் பல படங்களின், ஒன்றுக்கொன்று சம்மந்தமில்லாத பாத்திரங்களில் நடிக்கும்போது, எப்படி அந்தந்த ரோலுக்குள் மிகச்சரியாக புகுந்துகொள்கிறார் என்பதுதான். (எல்லாப்படங்களிலும் ஒரே மாதிரியாக நடித்துவிட்டுப் போகிறவர்களுக்கு பிரச்சினையில்லை). படத்தில் பல காட்சிகள் மிகவும் சுவாரஸ்யமாக இருக்கும்.

ரயிலில் வரும் தேவிகாவையும் அவரது அம்மா சி.கே சரஸ்வதியையும் தேடியலையும் நேரத்தில் 'அம்பாத்துரை பர்வதம்' என்று ஏலம் போடுவதாகட்டும், தன்னை ஆங்கிலத்தில் திட்டும் ஒருவரை, வாய்க்கு வந்த வார்த்தைகளால் திருப்பி பதில் கொடுப்பதாகட்டும்... சுவையானவை.

அண்ணன் (பந்துலு), அண்ணி (ராஜம்மா) தங்கை (சந்திரகாந்தா), அண்ணனின் குழந்தை (பேபி ஷகீலா) அனைவரிடமும் பாசம் காட்டுவதும், அண்னி பாடிக்கொண்டே உருட்டித்தரும் சோற்று உருண்டைகளை சாப்பிட்டுக்கொண்டு இருக்கும்போது, கூடவே பந்துலுவும் குறுக்கே கைநீட்டி வாங்கி சாப்பிடுவது பாசமுள்ள குடும்பத்தின் உதாரணம் என்றால், குருவிக்கூட்டில் கல்லெறிந்ததுபோல, வில்லி சி.கே.சர்ஸ்வதி புகுந்து குடும்பத்தைக்குலைப்பது கொடுமை. ('கோட்டைலே ஒரு ஆலமரம்' பாடலில் 'வெள்ளைப்புறாவின் குடும்பத்திலே வந்து புகுந்ததம்மா ஒரு கள்ளப்புறா' என்ற வரிகளின்போது ஜன்னல் வழியே சரஸ்வதியின் ஆந்தை விழிகளைக்காட்டுவது சூப்பர்)

நீங்கள் குறிப்பிட்ட மூன்று பாடல்களோடு, 'கல்யாண ஊர்வலம் பாரு' பாடலும் 'செவ்வந்திபூ போல ஒரு கோழிக்குஞ்சு' பாடலும்கூட இனிமையானவையே.

சித்தப்பா சாமி கும்பிடும்போது ஒளிந்திருந்து பார்க்கும் பேபி ஷகீலா, அனுமாரின் பிரம்மாண்டசிலையைப்பார்த்து பயந்து ஓடிப்போய், மலையிலிருந்து கீழே உருண்டு இறந்துபோவது மனதை பாரமாக அழுத்தும் காட்சி.

தங்கை சந்திரகாந்தாவை இழுத்துக்கொண்டு வீட்டை விட்டு வெளியேறும் முத்து, மீண்டும் வீட்டுக்கு வரும்போது, தன்னை திட்டும் அண்ணனிடம் வந்து தனக்காக பரிந்துபேசும் அண்ணியைப்பார்த்து... "சும்மா நிறுத்து அண்ணி... அவர் திட்டுற வரைக்கும் உள்ளே ஒளிஞ்சிக்கிட்டு இருந்துட்டு இப்போ வந்து விலக்கி விடுவதுபோல நடிக்கிறியோ... எனக்கு தெரியும், எல்லாம் வேஷம்" என்று பொறியும் இடமும், அதைத்தொடர்ந்து சட்டென்று அண்ணன் அண்ணி காலில் விழுந்து எழுந்துபோகும் இடமும், முத்துவின் வெகுளித்தனத்தை எடுத்துக்காட்டும் இடம். நம்ம அண்ணன் பின்னியெடுத்திருப்பார்.

தங்கை ரோலில் சந்திரகாந்தா மிகவும் நன்றாக நடித்திருப்பார். 'யக்கா' சண்முகசுந்தரத்தின் தங்கையாச்சே. வார்த்தை சுத்தமாக தமிழ்பேசும் அவருக்கு தமிழ்த்திரையுலகம் போதிய வாய்ப்புக்கொடுக்கவில்லை. (நன்றாக தமிழ் பேசும் நடிகைகளுக்கு வாய்ப்புக்கொடுக்கக்கூடாது என்று அப்பவே தமிழ்த்திரையுலகம் முடிவெடுத்து விட்டது போலும்). அவர் ஜமீன்தாரின் தம்பி பிரேம் நஸீருடன் (வழக்கம் போல அவரும் ஏழை என நினைத்து) காதல் வயப்படுவது கவிதை. சந்திரகாந்தா என்றதும் நினைவுக்கு வருவது, சுசீலாவின் மாஸ்டர் பீஸ்களின் ஒன்றான 'சரவண பொய்கையில் நீராடி' பாடல்தான். சமீபத்தில் கறுப்புப்பணம் படத்தில் கிளைமாக்ஸில் வரும்' உந்தன் ராஜசபை இங்கு வாராதோ' பாடலில் அழகாக செய்திருந்தார் (அதுவும் எஸ்.ஜானகிதான்).

'பொன்னாசை கொண்டோர்க்கு உள்ளமில்லை' பாடலில், சாரட்டில் உட்கார்ந்திருக்கும் அசோகன் ரகசியமாக துப்பாக்கியை எடுக்கும்போது என்னமோ பண்ணப்போகிறார் என்று பார்த்தால், ஏமாற்றி விடுகிறார். ஆனால் அதே சமயம் கிளைமாக்ஸில், முத்துவினால் தேவிகா த்னக்கு கிடைக்காமல் போய்விடப்போகிறாள் என்று அறிந்து பொங்கியெழும்போது, அவரது வழக்கமான ரௌத்ரம் வந்துவிடுகிறது.

ஜமீன்தார் அசோகனுடன் வந்திருக்கும் வண்டிக்காரன் முத்துதான் என்பதையறியாத சரஸ்வதி, தேவிகாவிடம், "ஜமீன்தாரின் வண்டிக்காரருக்கு நல்லா சாப்பாடு போட்டு கவனிம்மா" என்று சொல்லியனுப்ப வேண்டா வெறுப்பாக வீட்டின் பின்புறம் வரும் தேவிகா தன் மாமன் முத்துதான் வண்டிக்காரன் என்றறிந்து முகம் மலர்வதும், கையில் பாயாசம் ஊற்றிக்கொண்டிருக்கும் போது இருவரும் ஒருவரை ஒருவர் பார்த்துக்கொண்டே இருக்க, பாயாசம் கையிலிருந்து வழிந்து ஓடுவதும் அழகான இடங்கள். 'நாங்கள் இருவரும் எவ்வளவு பொருத்தமான ஜோடிகள் தெரியுமா?' என்று படத்துக்குப்படம் நிரூபித்து வந்திருக்கிறார்கள் 'நம்ம' அண்ணனும், 'நம்ம' தேவிகாவும்.

நகைச்சுவை-கம்-வில்லனாக வரும் வி.கே.ராமசாமியும் அவரது அண்ணன் மகன் நாகேஷும் வரும் காட்சிகள் நல்ல கலகலப்பு. உதாரணம் 'சித்தப்பா, எல்லோர்கிட்டேயும் அநியாய வட்டி வாங்கினேயில்லையா?. அதான் உன் கடை நின்னு நிதானமா எரியுது' என்று நாகேஷ் சாடும் இடம்.

போதிய வரவேற்பு இல்லாமல்போன நல்ல படங்களில் இதுவும் ஒன்று. 'நவராத்திரி' 100-வது படம் என்ற களேபரத்தில் சற்று கண்டுகொள்ளாமல் விடப்பட்டதும் ஒரு காரணம்.

What I wrote was more of a summary, and writing review of an NT film in English can do very little justifce. I was hopping for a follow-up from other great NT fans, and you came in and re-threaded the review in your own unique writing style.

For that, thank you very much, madam. NT fans like you and, of course, our wonderful hardworking Murali-sar has the power to make you want to go back and grab that disc and watch the movie again. I am getting that urge now, even if I had seen it over the weekend.

Dear Rakesh,
Your writing on Muradan Muthu, one of my all time favourites, is very apt and with full of substance. This one also falls under those umpteen number of NT's films which failed at the BO for no reason. But analysing the reasons if at all is there any, may be the time of its release. NT was very affectionate with Panthulu and sincerely advised him to wait for some time, but at the same time he did not make any problems with his call sheet (imagine if it was some other actor). While as a friend and well wisher, he advised Panthulu to wait for some time, as an actor, he did his duty with out causing any difficulty for the producer. Hence he did not interfer with the release of the film.
There is also another belief among the fans that the fate of the films at that time, depended on the status of the theatre in Mount Road area where it gets released. This would reflect among the fans throughout Tamil Nadu. If it was prominent theatres, like Shanthi, Midland, Wellington, Plaza, then it would have its impact. If it was some other theatre, it would be different. And Muradan Muthu was released at the Star Theatre in Triplicane and it did reflect in the decision of bo success. Many films which first got released at the Star Thatre, did not have much success at the bo, except Sivakumar's Rosappoo Ravikkaikkaari. MGR's films Kannan En Kadhalan, Petral Than Pillaiya, Vivasayee, NT's Muradan Muthu were among them. This might have had its psychological impact on the cinegoers of that time.
Coming to the film. These reasons in no way justify the failure of MM at BO. NT's superb performance, TG Lingappa's captivating music, were all there. And unlike histrionic and overgesturing villains of commercial films, the villain was one amongst us. Asokan gave another memorable performance in this film. Devika, MVR, Panthulu, had all played their part to perfection. Had this film clicked at the BO, may be we might not have got Ayirathil Oruvan from Panthulu (of course, this is my assumption). The scene where Muthu would invite his brother for the wedding of his sister, is a classic example of the relationship between affectionate brothers.

Muradan Muthu is one of those unfortunate films which did not get their due response from the audience.

Thank you for reading the review and for your comments, Raghavendra-sir. It's time that we highlight these underrated films. While occasionally we indulge in the richness of the like of VKB or Vasantha Maligai or Thiruvilayadal, let us also talk about this little film which are almost, if not equally, as rich as the ones I mentioned. Murali-sar is already doing an excellent job in that.

Also, thanks for the postings, notices, and the VBK screening coverages you have been doing. This thread is bouncing with energy also because of the hardwork you put in.
