I believe VK/NT combination might have worked in more rural/folksy environment (at that time, of course).

It is debatable, because no body knows when Vijayakanth will give a Hit :P (irrespective of the story & character)

But I think it was the other way round in Pudhiya Vaanam where SR goes on to take the baddie " Gocha " under NT's supervision !! Probably VK could have been the right choice here.

Yes.. but Pudhiya Vaanam is not a well executed unlike JK.

JK was a thorough entertainer. NT-SR chemistry worked out well in this film.

Infact, SR has a great chemistry & screen presence with almost all big stars

A small trivia about Pudhiya Vaanam - NT, in a song that mentions MGR, does a quick finger flick ala MGR. But you have to catch it fast. Only time NT does MGR style...though it still looks NTish.

I would love to see it. Obviously have missed it the first time.

Now, that makes me curious to know if MT had done " NT walking style" in any of his films ???

I've read this piece of info in Kamal thread. When Kamal was a dance asst. during the initial days of his career, he happened to choreograph a song for JJ & MT. He gave a movement for MT that resembled NT's style. MT identified it and smiled at him. Later he gave a movement for NT that resembled MT's style. NT also identified it and said " thiruttu payale" or something. Interesting.

Thanks and I understand your feelings about Vijaykanth not getting a suitable story to act along with NT.

Rakesh, What you have heard has some truth to it. Thengai did suffer but that was due to the adamant attitude of Mohan. He wanted his entire salary to be settled and refused to complete his portion before that. While NT had forgone a major part of his renumeration to help Thengai, Mohan refused to play ball. This film would have come out better had it not been caught in finacial tangles. Within 3 months of the release, Thengai passed away.

12. நடிகர் திலகம் பத்திரிக்கையாளராக நடித்த படம் - முதல் குரல்.

வி.சி.குகநாதன் இயக்கிய முதல் குரல் 14.08.1992 அன்று வெளியானது.

13. பதினைந்து வருட இடைவெளிக்கு பின் நடிகர் திலகமும் கமலும் இணைந்து நடித்த படம் தேவர் மகன்.

14. மலையாளத்தின் பரதன் தமிழில் இயக்கிய படம் தேவர் மகன்.

15. 1992 - வருடம் தீபாவளியன்று [25.10.1992] வெளியான தேவர் மகன் ஒரு மிகப் பெரிய வெற்றிப் படமாக ஓடி சாதனை புரிந்தது.

Heard of but have not watched "en thamiz en makkal" - was it a propaganda film ?

Chinna marumagal and Thevar magan the same year !
He looked quote weak and worn out in CM compared to the 'gambeeram' seen in TM.
