It reminds me the saranam of ayirathil oruvan from iruvar....
Interesting! Let's see others' opinions too! Else, just head to http://www.itwofs.com/ to know what I think. I don't want to influence anyone's thinking when they listen to this - that's why I don't want to post it directly.
First, I thought its not even close to be called a coincidence. On second hearing, eventhough it sounds similar I feel its a very common microtune. I guess if you play it on piano it might sound similar to Chariots of fire also (?). It is also a common melody in guitar solos I think.. I cant remember any particular song though.

In short... I think it doesnt need an entry

The tune is "just" an arohana and avarohana (so called in carnatic music, don't know how it's called in english) of four notes which is often used. I think I heard in an ad too. It is very common and I don't think it can be called a lift.

Karthik, Yes i does look similar, especially the first four lines of Dosthu and the rhythm too. But i really don't know whether to call this a coincidence or lifted.
IMHO, Tune of dosthu song is not something very great, a simple tune hummable tune. Do you think this tune really needs inspiration. So this must be coincidence

Super Viraajan.. sila samayam nallaa thaan blog ezhudhureenga.. adhai vida romba nallaave HJ-vai criticize panni sandhoshappadureenga..

Aanaa.. unga judgement irukke... chance-ae illa.. hereafter, if the tune is simple and hummable... let us assume that the song had no copies, not even inspirations. It is sheer coincidence. Indha yardstick-a marandhu engeyum tholaichudaadheenga... please keep it safe. I only wish that you use the same yardstick for others' songs also.

Yes.. I agree with you eventhough I am not qualified to pass judgement on musical terms, I would assume it to be right :P

    post-a ozhunga padinga...
i haven't declared that d dosthu song is original. have i?
karthik-oda opiniona avar kitta ketten. neanga yen mookka nozhaikareenga...

betw, HJ-va edhukku inga izhukkareenga, avar than padathukku padam anga inga kaiya vaikkararu. VA-la than konjam nalla potturukkaru nu sandhosha patten. but adhulaiyum mundhinam inspired nu pesikaranga. am yet to listen to george michael's track. also, where did i criticize HJ for a coincidence?
padathukku padam he is copying. but of late yuvan is doin away wit lifts. very very few of his recent compositions had lifts. so we can trust him (atleast till someone comes wit a new finding).
only his recent saroja had two inspired works. one is cheeky and the other his this dosthu.

For some reason, to me, "venmaegam" from Yaaradi Nee Mohini sounds similar to "Kaadhal vaiththu" from Deepavali in the starting lines.

Yen Ramki, naan 2004'la serakoodaadha? Or was the multiple exclamation added to denote that we joined the hub on the same day?

This one's listed in the index page now - will move it to coincidences soon.
