    Kannil enna kaargaalam is pure Ilaiyaraaja genre. Classifying it under any other genre would be a great injustice to Raaja himself.

    mastana mastana from raasaiyya is calypso? that me-say-day me-say-day me-say-day is obviously sung by Karthik raaja (not the main singer arun mozhi) - karthik seems to have been influenced by

    eddie dhinesh (yahoo groups and a great bass expert) confirms this....

    Abolutely Vel. Masthana Masthana's rhythm starts with Calypso. Then in the 1st BGM, it takes a detour and makes a come back in the remaining Pallavis & the 2nd BGM. Am not sure about 'Karthik's' voice in this song.

    3) Calypso/Reggae
    a. Aadum Neram from Soorasamharam is close to Calypso/Reggae genre though that song is a brilliant fusion of Tribe, Indian Classical. The pallavi portion has strong Calypso nuances.
    b. Mastaana Mastaana (Raasaiyya)

    4) Disco
    a. Ilamai Idho Idho from sakalakalaavallavan
    b. Endrendrum Aanandhame from Kadal Meengal - The second interlude is heavenly...
    c. Netru Indha Neram strongly suggests Disco genre...Also some Funk elements in form of synth usage and Phaser effects all over the song but the rhythm is close to disco

    5) doo-wop
    a. "Pudhu Mappilaiku", Apoorva Sagodharargal (1989).

    6) flamenco
    a. refer, for instance, to the musical vignettes/interludes that accompany the rock-lifting scenes in the film Muthal Mariyathai (1985).

    7) funk

    b. the comedic funks "Oru Nayagan Uthayamagiraan" from Dhavani Kanavugal (1984),

    17) Rock

    c. "Vaan Engum" from Moondram Pirai (1983) - sounds close to Rock(Psychedelic) for the INTENSE Bass works...
    d. Megam Kottattum is 100% Rock/Heavy Metal for the Bass...there is a nice tribe post-lude in this one...
    e. Vaazha Vaikkum Kaadhalukku from Aboorva Sagotharargal is close to Rock for the incredible Bass guitars(Bass leads and Bassline)... But the rhythm could suggest another genre...

    I think it is Funk Rock!! Vel, any thought.
    I also feel many IR songs cannot be strictly grouped in one genre. As we know it is due to his seamless integration of different genre in which he is the king!
