    Newbie doubt

    Hi,

    I had this general doubt. It is a convention to name anupallavi in all the krithis as 1,2,3 etc
    But in some notations i have seen 1a 1b 1c etc what does this a,b,c denote can any one let me know...

    The numbers 1, 2 3 or a, b, c etc are called sangatis (variations).

    Ok, But my question is why not name it as 1,2,3,4 etc

    why should one use 1, 1a,1b then say 2,2a 3 etc
