Congrats Raghavendran Sir. Hope the website would attain more glory in the coming year. Keep up your good work.
Mohan, yourself can start on any movie. Tied up here and would not be able to contribute for the next 4,5 days. You start. Even last week you had started on Uyarndha Manidhan. That could be continued. No hero worth his salt would agree for the story line and especially two things. One is, hero unable to save his wife when her hut is burnt. Second the scenes where Asokan constantly keep pricking him about his cowardice culminating in the final party scene. NT allowed full screen space for Asokan but would come back strongly.
Sowcar was another character well etched. The discipline she talks about would be reflected in her every dialogue and mannerism. NT in one scene would reply to her in the same vein. When Sowcar asks about the injection needle, NT would quip sarcastically " There is a needle for the rich! There is a needle for the poor!".
When I write about UM, I remember arguing with PR about the "Sappaattu scene" where NT would have the food brought from Driver's home. He would relish the spicy, salty tasty food to the core. (Kannile Thannee Varum). I was expressing my anguish to PR that while the fish eating scene of MM is spoken so highly of, a similar scene done some 17 years ahead of MM is not even mentioned in the passing.
Our fellow hubber and NT fan Dhanusu always used to speak about UM. Wonder why he is not seen nowadays?
Regards

Dear Murali Sir,
Thanks for the suggestion. But, writing lengthy passages in Tamil using type pad and that too during office hours is definitely a big task for me.
Though UM is one of my favourite, it's been a long time since I saw this film. Am planning to buy the DVD and probably be delighted to write more on this after that.
Remember a few scenes in the film which I like very much - the argument between NT & Sow, the scene where Ashokan reveals his desire for Vanishree and then dies, etc. Excellent performance by NT - Ashokan also did a good job indeed.
And who can forget the famous " Andha naal nyabagam..." A fantastic scene in the song, where NT walks majestically on a curvy road, with a walking stick, perfectly matching to the BGM......simply no words to express.
