Have to add that the intermittent plot dynamics works against it..

    Good lead performance.

Why wasn't this nominated for any awards? Instead of likes of Depp being nominated for lousy performances, Ben Stiller deserved recognition. This is his "Punch Drunk Love".

    Black Swan

Like any cocktail of The Piano Teacher and All about Eve with shards of Red Shoes, Repulsion and Mulholland drive, it's appetizing and for extra ambition, surprisingly not quirky, but I'd prefer something more fulfilling.

Portman's performance was good (not great).

De Niro to head Cannes film jury

PARIS – Hollywood actor Robert De Niro will head the jury at this year’s Cannes film festival, the organisers said yesterday.

Raging Bull actor De Niro has already been the festival’s jury chief twice in the 1980s and will take charge of the 64th edition from May 11th to 22th.

“As co-founder of the Tribeca Film Festival and the Doha Tribeca Film Festival I have an increased appreciation for the jury who serve, undertaking an important role in choosing films that are represented in the world of film at its highest level,” De Niro said. – (Reuters)

    127 Hours

    Could be watched once.

    Franco

The biggest compliment I'd pay Rahman is that the ambient score just prods us without sticking out. Typical Boyle soundtrack in that respect. And certainly a better film of the new-Boyle, whose current work seem to be less inhibited by nihilism and griminess of the early work..

Did you guys catch De Niro's speech yesterday. I've never seen him like this, the standup routine. Wow!

The others are as usual, especially RDJ. But hardly see Ne Niro doing standup routine like this. And seemed unrehearsed too.
