The category is pretty heavy weight - Alexandre Desplat and Danny Elfman are big names. Desplat is a personal favorite..

Jesse Eisenberg - "The Social Network"

While he is good in TSN, I believe Di Caprio deserved a nom for Shutter Island..

Yes, SI is a glaring miss. As is True Grit - so it really pushes my hopes up. I finished reading the book. Can't wait to see what the Coens do with it. Then there's Sofia Coppola's film 'Somewhere' which won Golden Lion in Venice (somewhat controversial as QT was head of the jury).

And one other film we ought to bookmark is the TV movie "You Don't Know Jack", some great things said about Pacino here..

Watched it. Didn't like it. The film shouldn't just be about the performance. Enna thaan big issues (Euthanasia) and real-life documentation iruthalum, the writing and direction didn't make these characters interesting (forget 'relatable') on any level. Johny Goodman and Susan Saradon both make an interesting presence when they're first introduced, but they're all reduced to cardboard by the end. One ends up being a peripheral acquaintance and other into a much-involved patient without necessarily invoking an interest. Most of the characters and interactions were borderline dull (the attorney guy tries a bit much to be smug but in a dull way.), the biggest reason it all ended up emotionally distant is because of the way it's all recorded like medical consultation.

Pacino does well at certain points, that's about the only reason I ended up watching it. But in the end, I didn't find it nuanced because of his acting. There are moments where the writing itself brings the paranoia, obsession, flamboyance and heartfelt passion of the character out. There's even a line ('I don't know if he's rational, but he's certainly sane') to make our minds on him.
