    12TH INTERNATIONAL FILM FESTIVAL KERALA-THIRUVANANTHAPURAM-2007

    SNIPPETS
    Women film aspirants…. Come on…..

Dear women film enthusiasts here is a bit of good news for u.
Shahnaz an ardent film lover will be launching AFFMA-ASIAN FEMININE FILMAND MEDIA ACADEMY shortly. It will be the film society exclusively for women. ‘MOST OF WOMEN do not have any idea how to pursue their interests in films. We WOULD PROMOTE such aspirants” she said. “Our focus is on women writers, directors, camera persons, editors and even producers. This will be platform for film appreciation and discussion” she added. The society would take films top campus to create awareness among the students towards this medium.

    JAFAR PANAHI-IRANIAN FILM MAKER

Whenever he comes with a new film it creates ripples in Iran and his films are banned.
“Truths are sacred and need not be told always” is the explanation of the Iranian Government. “My films are gentle but effective” and that is what creates nightmare among the rulers.
Circle one of his films was screened yesterday at the Kairali theatre. It essays the plight of Iranian women. Crimson Gold and Offside too are his other movies which highlighted how Iranian women are forbidden from enjoying the social life. Offside is the story of six Iranian women who wanted to play football. The film was due to be released a few days before the world cup 2006 at Germany. The government banned the film.

    Anil Kapoor
Anil came to Thiruvananthapuram on the screening of his film “Gandhi my Father”. The film dwelled deep into the relationship between the Gandhi and his son Harilal Gandhi. It is a metaphor of an Indian family. It si not only he story about the father and the son but also about Kasturba who is torn between them. Gandhi a role model for others to emulate could not save his own son. The theme is contemporary. His failure on the personal front is not a yard stick to judge his greatness.

Are there any collections of stories available in English or Tamil about Pakkanar, Naranathu Braanthan, or Panthirukulam generally? I enjoyed stories about Pakkanar in particular in my childhood, but I can't remember very many of them.

    Thanks
