Perhaps MSV included Govt. propaganda movies etc...
His official website (MSVtimes.com) has a listing of feature films...not even 500 I think...
In addition, a claim of 1500 feature films is logically unreasonable, considering the total # of movies made in south in the years that MSV has been fully / partly active in the field...

Largest number of movies will go to MSV (including Viswanathan Ramamoorthy combination). Both in combination and alone, he has scored music for more than 1700 movies in various languages. Saw this in Vijay TV's sigaram thotta manithargal recently.
Oh God! ethanai thadava than sollurathu ithu wrong information nu.
.
Who did start this gossip? :P
MSV said that in an interview in Vijay TV about 3 weeks back. Program is called "Sigaram Thotta Manithargal".
r u clear?
If MSV believes in the number 1500+, God only can save him from false info.
Because he was not famous other than tamil like IR and the count of produced film in 50, 60s were mentionable amount smaller than the count in 80s, 90s, 00s.

Take 50% of Shivaji movies, 90% of MGR movies, 50% of KB, 50% of Gemini ganesan, 50% of muthuraman .... I dont know why its not hard for you guys to believe. We used to make about 140/150 movies / year, now down to 70-80/year. We had only 1 MD, MSV, but we had IR, Deva, Chandrabose etc. In a year where we made 90 movies IR did 50%. In a year where we made 150 movies, MSV did 80%. You guys somehow doesnt want to come out of well. Well stay there.

The year 1992 marked the entry of ARR if you remember !
That year, IR did not score many movies, as Deva was already there grabbing some low budget projects..
this list shows 56 movies in 1992 by IR: http://www.rakkamma.com/films.phtml?year=1992

In which year did we make 150 movies?
Average annual film output in Tamil film industry has risen steadily in the 20th century
* 1930s—22.5 releases per year on average
* 1940s—22.1 releases per year on average
* 1950s—32.6 releases per year on average
* 1960s—43.0 releases per year on average
* 1970s—62.5 releases per year on average
* 1980s—104.6 releases per year on average
* 1990s—101.2 releases per year on average

njv,
romba lollu ungalukku samaiyal recipe maadhiri solreenga ?
Take 50% of Shivaji movies.
ok, taken. Shivaji has not acted more than approx 300 films. 50% is 150.
Take 50% of MGR movies.
MGR surely did not act more movies like Shivaji. It would be just 150 at max or 200. So 50% of this is 100.
Not to talk about Gemini, KB etc..
As Sanjeevi has mentioned, do you know some one called KV Mahadevan , another doyen who was considered at par with MSV ? A large number of Shivaji movies went to him. So 50% credited to MSV can go wrong.
Shankar Ganesh duo were more in the scene when MSV was ruling than the IR era. After IR came in to the scene, everybody like Chandra Bose, Shankar Ganesh were apparently washed out with only 2 or 3 films per year..

produced abt 23 movies with MGR, but for 1 or 2, the rest - music was by KV.
Many of sivaji's films featrured MSV's songs only.
Many gemini & KB films also featured MSV, not to forget jaishankar, sivakumar, muithuiraman films.
But yes, 1700 is an inflated figure.

Yaanaikum Adisarukkum
njv sonnathai, Yaanaikkum adi sarukkum endru eduthukollungal. MGRs all Devar movies were scored by KVM only.Hence MSV-TKR might have done only about 50% of MGR movies. During MSV-TKR period, there were more music directors than during IR's period. And already one has mentioned that IR has done a lot in Malayalam, Telugu, Kannada and Hindi as every body know about it. No idea about MSV scoring in other languages.
Otherwise based on the number of films, IRs name might be appearing in Guinness Record.
