This song reminds me of an old lady (distant relative).

I happen to stay at her house for a night to attend a function, her daughter in law (who is my aunty) was talkin to me and my mom when suddenly at around 11ish or so.. we heard a small hum of this song in a mild tone...followed by deep sighs and quiet cries.

Its then she said her mother in law's husband ran away from home, when that lady was around 23 or so..... That old lady was around 85 then....... I believe SHE SINGS THIS SONG....... DAILY AT NIGHT..... WEEPING AND CRYING HERSELF TO SLEEP....... EVERYNIGHT..........for so many years.

I could not help tears rolling.

It still rolls when I think of her,,,,,

Prabha.. I love this song.. infact the early songs of TR were a class apart.. I feel he didnt take full advantage of this strength

There is an interesting instance associated with this song. This film had almost all the leading male singers singing each song (there is no song with female playback). TR called up TMS to sing this song.. That time TMS was trying to make a come back.. So TMS expressed his reservation on singing this song, as a comeback song, as it starts with 'naan oru raasiyilla raaja'.. so he requested TR to first give him some other song and after singing that he will sing this song.. TR thought for a while and gave a song.. TMS also sang that song but was not too happy... And that song is 'en kadhai mudiyum neram idhu'...

This song was very special cause, my cousins and myself used to FRIGHTEN each others with bedsheets and other tings SINGING THIS SONG...... continuously... and teasing one another.

We even put hole in one old bedsheets so that only eyes could be seen... and tried to frighten another cousin with this costume at 12 mid-night

with deep voice.... all one us would sing...

its always sad that TR was never recognised well for his ability esp as lyricist and music composer.

some of his lyrics are AMAZING for its richness in creativity. (most of his tunes were awesome too)
