I love Sivaji songs for the emotions they emote.
MGR songs are more for light moods. I seldom appreciate motivational songs.

This song impresses me, nay strikes me, everytime I listen to it.
Unless I am totally mistaken, the mood of the song is largely sentimental, conveying in ample measure the yearning of the lover for the loved. I have not seen the movie (nor the song on TV), though.
The sombre tone of the song (lyric) is enhanced by the apposite music of HJ. The first interlude is striking, including the male humming. The second interlude, however, distracts somewhat. The "mudhalvan type" of chanting could have been avoided. I hate to say this but musical bits from the sentimental Pukar song "Kismet se Tum hum ko mile" are probably employed in the second interlude.
All in all, a very memorable song; hard to shake off its effects, IMO.
Hats off, HJ.
