After contemplations aplenty the fate of Hindi remake of Ghajini has been decided. The movie was never in any trouble but there were lengthy discussions, and debates before the rough look of the team that would actualize the movie was finalized. As it has turned out, the discussions came full circle.

The initial talk was that A.R.Murugadoss, the director of the Tamil original would be directing the movie with the mercurial Aamir Khan in the lead and Asin making her debut in Bollywood. The things took their first turn when Aamir Khan was rumored to be in discussion with Mani Ratnam for Lajjo, a replacement for Aamir was required; now that is not something that is easy to find. Then came the news that Priyanka Chopra was all set to replace Asin. Finally came the biggest twist. Director A.R.Murugadoss was reported to be on his way out of the project due to his very limited understanding of Hindi. A prominent director from Bollywood was touted to be the replacement.

With names being thrown around, no one had any clue as to what the movie will look like. But as said earlier, things have come full circle. The discussions have ended where they had begun. After contemplating on all the possible names, the concerned people seem to have settled for A.R.Murugadoss as the director. With Aamir Khan’s dates being available there was no need to look anywhere else.

So that is how the movie will look like; A.R.Murugadoss calling the shots and Aamir enacting Sanjay Ramaswamy. Other details including the female lead have not yet been decided. Let’s hope that even this one bounces back to the point where it all began and we get to see Asin play Kalpana once again.

Shooting for the movie is all set to begin by the end of March. Of course, the music; that will be scored by none other than the wizard A.R.Rahman. Certainly something to watch out for.

Asin out, Ayesha in!

First the bad news - The `numero uno` Tamil actress Asin will not be the heroine of Aamir Khan in the Hindi remake of Ghajini which will be directed by A.J.Murugadoss.

Ayesha Takia who had done that super hit Telugu film Super opposite Nagarjuna and the recent multi-starrer Salaam-E-Ishq is going to play the role of Kalpana made memorable by Asin.

Allu Arjun (Brother-in-law of Telugu superstar Chiranjeevi ) is producing the Hindi remake of Ghajini. Aamir Khan will do the lead role of the guy suffering from short term memory loss, out to avenge the death of his lover.

Murugadoss will be directing the Hindi version with A.R.Rahman’s music, camera by Ravi.K.Chandran and editing by Antony. The entire technical crew of the film is from Kollywood and hence it was decided that the cast should be from Bollywood! This was one of the reasons why Asin lost out to Ayesha.

In fact Aamir Khan who had seen the original was all in awe of Asin’s performance and had recommended her strongly for the project. A camera test was done in Chennai on her and another top actress from south, but both failed to reach the expectations required for a Hindi film heroine!

Immediately Ayesha Takia was flown in from Mumbai and after the camera test, she was selected to do the coveted role of a middle-class, small time model who becomes the sweetheart of a business tycoon. The buzz is that a part of the film will be shot in Chennai city.

Sources close to the production house comments: “Ayesha has a perfect blend of innocence and glamour and moreover her performance in the recent Nagesh Kukunoor directed Dor had come in for lot of appreciation.”

The shoot for the untitled film (likely to be titled Ghajini itself) will start from mid-April.

The above lyrics dripping with unbridled romance helped its writer Prasoon Joshi win his first Filmfare Award for best Lyrics at the recently concluded 52nd Filmfare Awards. He had also been nominated for the thought-provoking anthem from Rang De Basanti, Rubaroo. “Getting nominated along with Javed Sahab and Gulzar Sahab is an honour in itself,” Prasoon revealed to IndiaFM.

One of the top-notch Advertising Guru in the country, Joshi has won plethora of awards in the field of advertising all over the world. He is also widely known for the Thanda Matlab Coca Cola Campaign. His stint in lyrics writing started with pop band Silk Route, followed by surreal Shubha Mudgal’s private albums and he finally made a mark in films with Kunal Kohli’s Hum Tum.

You did two films last year (Rang De Basanti and Fanaa) and got nominated for both. What are you doing next? “I am doing Aamir’s Taare Zameen Par and the remake of Ghajini,” says Prasoon. “Shankar Ehsan Loy is giving music for Taare Zameen Par while A R Rahman is giving music for the Ghajini remake,” he adds. Have the songs been recorded for Ghajini Remake? “No, not as yet.” And finally, are you directing a film starring Aamir? “No….” Joshi signs off leaving behind a trail of fragrant words.
