yes, whenever i listened to this song,i felt the other singer Balram tried to imitate IR,might be unintentional.

Rahman ji refrained himself from experimenting too much with contemporary genres, as the script demanded conventional/familar genres eg. Qawwali - Tere Bina, Operatic - Jaage Hai, Ghazal - Aye Hairathe, Folk - Barso Re and Ek Lo Ek Muft and Ragtime - Baazi Laga
But the extent to which he revived those genres in IFM and experimented within those genre parameters is really laudable.
Now comming back to the album and why it should be the album of the week...
I was listening to Maiya Maiya and fortunate surprises stil pop out from this song, even today. When the Darbuka and Kaman strings merge with Gujarati folk vocals, it's like the vibrations of Rahman have brought the traditional Gujarati Navratri festival to the Middle East.
I am going to revist the album.
Though all genres are familiar no one else could of utilised them in a more impactful manner.
Thanks Mani saab, Rahman saab and Gulzar saab.
ps. People we should discuss albums more often, what say? Let me know how you feel about Guru.
Thanks
