Nothing to say about him being Tamilian.. But I've said what I wanted to say in Vazhakku En thread. Last long post of the month, I promise. Even I don't want to read it again.

Just how mainstream cinema plays out the displaced low class settlements in Cities.

ah ok.. but i think the other one was merely trying to get votes on sympathy while shangai was not dwelling too much into that...

One of my beefs about Shanghai is that they're muted cogs in the wheel for the plot. But at least the characters were quirky and interesting. Seemed more than just 'robots' tbf.
VE OTOH, just a series of contrived events and loose manipulations posturing to be 'realistic'. But it doesn't dwell on it in a meaningful way.
Interesting how both films are false 'procedurals'. And I thought DB "directs" Shanghai, BS has no meaningful sense of control, to my mind.

Ideally wouldn't want to compare, but too lazy to put it in two different posts.

also, i could not understand the social worker coming from foreign part... i mean if the director is hinting any layers to that character?

yes, the guy who is murdered... not sure if his name was kalki..

Neenga foreign-nu sonna udanE, I thought it's a white guy/lady. You're referring to the doctor? I think there are lot of living examples for that.
