Rajesh,
I remember those songs well. I too went to four schools ( my father was a school teacher) and three universities including Madras U. That is why I still remember some Tamil songs. Here is a recent post covering some of those songs
http://atulsongaday.me/2012/05/15/go...inaa/#comments
The first female voices I remember from Hindi films were sort of metallic( described differently in the post) then with Lata! Geeta Roy and others became softer and then shrill. This may not be an exact descriptions but there were some changes , may be because many left for Pakistan. For some reasons I did not like the most famous of them Nur Jehan except for a few particularly the dhammal 'ho lal mere' www.youtube.com%2Fwatch%3Fv%3D6hF2OZlcdxs

I was listening to "jism" album this morning. Listening alone is good for health. For such a taboo theme and movie, songs are too fantastic to let go. shreya, m.m.kreem, udit does magic...

Nice old picks...thankyou raj, sunil, vs, gaddes .

Here is a song, probably known to most from Samsaram (Telugu, Tamil 1950 sung by Ghantasala, A.M. Raja respectively) with music by Susarla Dakshinamurthy. A similar song in Hindi film Sansar, 1952 has different credits but the same tune. I am partial to the Talat version but Telugu friends do not agree. The Tamil version can be found in
http://www.inbaminge.com/t/hits/List...aaram.vid.html
Telugu version in
http://www.oldtelugusongs.com/newson...shinaMurty.mp3
but I could find a video only for the Hindi version

Swarup: Good to hear 'yeh sansar' again. This was posted by Sunil on Dec 1st. I also posted 'khat khat khat gaadi rook..' (kada kada kada loda loda vaNdi in Tamil). We were in Nagapattinam when this movie was released !
I am trying to make a list of songs posted so far, a time consuming task!

Rajraj,
Thanks. I browsed through a few of the pages but missed this. The Telugu version " takku takku tamakula bandi lankanala bandi.." stayed with me since I saw the movie. Somehow, I find only Hindi versions on the YouTube not the Telugu or Tamil versions except for the song you mentioned above but with a different background. I hope that the Tamil and Telugu versions will also be posted on YouTube.

Ahir Bhairav for the weekend
Here is a song in Ahir Bhairav from Meri Surat Teri Ankhen(1963):
Poochho na kaise maine rain bitaye.............
This song has been sung by a few more singers. Here are two:
Mahesh Mulwani:
Anup Jalota:
The carnatic raga equivalent (or close) to Ahir Bhairav is Chakravakam. Here is the song I like from Karnan:
ULLathil nalla uLLam urangaadhenbadhu vallavan vaguthadhadaa karnaa...........
Have a good weekend!

raj sir You made my weekend with Poochho na kaise. Brilliant, brilliant composition by SDB ji. I heard that this song was first given to Rafi, since he got too emotional SDB had to rope in Manna Dey. After hearing Manna Dey saab, I have to agree that Rafi saab didn't sing it. Manna Dey thoroughly deserves the honors. What emotions, control, depth in singing!
BTW, engernthu sir pidichinga, Ustab Mahesh Mulwani and his tablaist. That was a great find! Thank you sir. I have never seen fingers rolling so fast for so long time. Hats off to that gentleman. Just because of that, I loved Mahesh's version better than Anup Jalota. I never knew the relationship between Ahir Bhairavi with Chakravaagam, till you told me. Now I can relate them clearly, especially the flute portions tells us the chakravaagam in it.
SP, Thanks for Jism and introducing MM Kreem. Beautiful soundtrack and a very pleasant one. Perfect for night time.

From the 50s
A song from Naghma(1953) Music: Nashad (not Naushad)
kaahe jadu kiya mujhko kitna bata............
Amirbai Karnataki (version not used in the movie)
Shamshad Begum (movie version)(embedding disabled)
http://youtube.com/watch?v=vpc6ZsiUYx8
Both were great singers. I am not sure why the lyricist did not like Amirbai version.
V_S: I came across Mulwani when I was listening to 'poochho na kaise'. I listened to his version and liked it!
