thankyou everybody. This is a diff world. I liked voices of kurshid bano or pakistani singer for their less shrieky and natural tone. I thought panchi banwra sounded like hum ko manki raaga, then learnt its different. Thanks.

There are many great songs by Mahendra Kapoor that I'm currently unearthing.

    Here is Tumhara Chahane Wala.

Manoj Kumar and Mahendra Kapoor will go down in history as a parallel combo to Raj Kapoor and Mukesh

Wonderful song Sunil! It seems the lyrics is so good. When you have some time, can you please translate for me. I don't think it is Manoj kumar, it is Biswajeet.

I've tried my best, Sir! My Hindi and Urdu is slightly weak

tumhaaraa chaahanewaalaa khudaa kee duniyaan mein
mere siwaa bhee koee aaur ho khudaa naa kare

God forbid, that other than I there is no one else who loves you in god’s world.

ye baat kaise ganwaaraa karegaa dil meraa
tumhaaraa jikr kisee aaur kee jabaan pe ho
tumhaare husn kee taareef aaeenaa bhee kare
to main tumhaaree kasam hai, ke tod doo usako
tumhaare pyaar, tumhaaree adaa kaa diwaanaa
mere siwaa bhee koee aaur ho khudaa naa kare

How shall my suffering heart stress this,
The mention of your existence from someone,
Even the mirror applauds your beauty,
I shall promise that I’ll break that mirror,
I’m mad about your love and your charisma,
God forbid, that other than I there is no one else who loves you in god’s world.

wo din naa aaye ke muz se kabhee judaa hokar
kiseekaa pyaar dobaaraa kahee talaash karo
zukaake sar ko kisee ajanabee ke shaanon par
tum apane gam kaa sahaaraa kahee talaash karo
kareeb dil ke tumhaare kisee bhee haalat me

I hope that day never comes when we separate,
I can’t bear the thought of finding new love after losing you,
Bowing down to a stranger’s charm,
In difficult times whatever the situation please find support from someone close to you.

tumhaare dil ko kabhee muz se koee thhes lage
muze yakeen hai, ayesaa kabhee naheen hogaa
muze wafaaon pe apanee badaa bharosaa hai
tumhaaraa pyaar hee de jaaye naa kahee dhokhaa
duaa ye hain ke tumhaaraa, khudaa kee duniyaan me
mere siwaa bhee koee aaur ho, khudaa n kare
tumhaaraa chaahanewaalaa khudaa kee duniyaan me
mere siwaa bhee koee aaur ho khudaa naa kare

I assure you that I will never hurt your feelings,
I have confidence that I’ll stick to my promises,
God forbid, that your love for me isn’t a game or that you're playing with my emotions,
God forbid, that other than I there is no one else who loves you in god’s world.

Wonderful! Thank you Sunil. Really appreciate it. There are few lines and words (shaanon, ganwaara,..) which I don't know the meaning (especially the lines; tumhaaraa pyaar hee de jaaye naa kahee dhokhaa - why does he say that?), and without that, I could not get the whole poetry and its complete meaning. Now I can enjoy the lovely composition. What a lovely poetry!

    Rajraj,
That Ratan song is one of the songs I remember most. I watched the movie walking three miles and my mother used to sing it. Thanks.

    raj sir,
Excellent pick. Thanks for reminding Rattan again. I believe Naushad, Khemchand Prakash, Anil Biswas, C Ramchandra all ruled the 40s. What a talented group of singers! My most favorite song from this film is O Janewale Balamwa by Amirbhai Karnataki and Shyam Kumar which I posted some back here. This song is the first song in my Naushad collection, unforgettable!

    V_S: You are welcome.
Those days movie making was an art form. These days it is a business, in my opinion. Occasionally you see some art. I will return to Ratan after posting from other movies. Thanks for reminding me about your Ratan post.

Swarup: I am glad you are enjoying the thread that brings back memories. First Hindi songs I remember are
'ab tere siva' and 'chup chup kade ho'. Those tunes were used in Tamil movies. For me some songs remind me of the place where we lived when heard those songs first (I had lived in 11 places by the time I earned my B.E ! )
