The next song is reminds me of a guy called Naveen who was in BHU in late 80s... I had gone to a National Integration Camp and I was the youngest in the whole crowd!
There was this group 5 very talented guys from BHU. One of them was Naveen... His father was a ghazal singer and he himself had a great voice.
He sang this song on the stage and I fell for his voice (while the rest of the girls fell for him ) I got him to record this song for me right away!
I somehow don't like the video of the song....

Hindi Song Title: Kya Hua ik Baat Par
    Hindi Movie/Album Name: TERI KASAM
    Singer(s): AMIT KUMAR
    Actors: Phoonam Dhillon, Kumar Gaurav
    Music Director: R.D.Burman

    Hindi Lyrics:
kyaa huaa, ik baat par barson ka yaaraanaa gayaa
is bahane doston ka pyaar pahchaanaa gayaa
    kyaa huaa, kyaa huaa
kyaa huaa, ik baat par barson ka yaaraanaa gayaa

(kyaa sunaayen ham kisi ko, pyaar ki ye daastaaN) -2
    pyaar ki ye daastaaN
jaan jaane ko hai baaqi, dil to deewaanaa gayaa
kyaa huaa, ik baat par barson ka yaaraanaa gayaa...

(unkaa, unke gham kaa ai dil, ab karen afsos kyaa) -2
    ab karen afsos kyaa
jis ko aanaa thaa vo aaya, jis ko thaa jaanaa gayaa
kyaa huaa, ik baat par barson ka yaaraanaa gayaa...

(unse milne ki ijaazat, ek bas hamko nahin) -2
    ek bas hamko nahin
unse milne unke ghar, har apnaa begaanaa gayaa
kyaa huaa, ik baat par barson ka yaaraanaa gayaa...

kyaa huaa, ik baat par barson ka yaaraanaa gayaa
is bahane doston ka pyaar pahchaanaa gayaa
    kyaa huaa, kyaa huaa
kyaa huaa, ik baat par barson ka yaaraanaa gayaa

    Anoushka,

Can I join the club? Great song! Never heard before.. Just love the places he lingers on a note. Almost can visualise the scene.

    Post more such rare songs.

A song that I fell for the first time I heard it... A beautiful one by Lata
It is said that Madan Mohan composed the song in two minutes ... The music is great and so are the lyrics.

Hindi Song Title: Aapki Nazaron ne samjha
    Hindi Movie/Album Name: Anpadh
    Singer(s): Lata Mageshkar
    Actors: Dharmendra, Mala Sinha
    Music Director: Madan Mohan
    Lyrics: Raja Mehdi Ali Khan

Aapki Nazaron Ne Samjha, Pyaar Ke Kabil Mujhe
Dil Ki Ai Dhadkan Thaher Ja, Mil Gayee Manzil Mujhe
    Aapki Nazron Ne Samjha

Ji Hamen Manzoor Hai, Aapka Ye Faisla
Kah Rahi Hai Har Nazar, Banda Paravar Shukriya
Do Jahaan Ki Aaj Khushiyan Ho Gayee Haasil Mujhe
    Aapki Nazron Ne Samjha …

Aapki Manzil Hoon Main Meri Manzil Aap Hain
Kyon Main Toofaan Se Darun Mere Saahil Aap Hain
Koi Tufanon Se Kah De, Mil Gaya Sahil Mujhe
    Aapki Nazron Ne Samjha …

Pad Gai Dil Par Meri, Aapki Parchhaiyan
Har Taraf Bajane Lagin Saikadon Shahnaaiyaan
Hanske Apni Zindagi Mein, Kar Liya Shaamil Mujhe
    Aapki Nazron Ne Samjha …

On a quiet night when I am not in the greatest of spirits and can't fall asleep (which is quite unusal) the song I love to listen to before I go to sleep is the following song... A very old song (1955) of Lata.

roz ki tarah, aaj bhi taare
subah ki gard mein na kho jaayen
aa tere Gham mein, jaagti aaNkhen
    kam-se-kam ek raat so jaayen
chaaNd maddham hai aasmaaN chup hai

when she sings these lines I seriously would want to hold on to the stars so that they don't get lost in the morning and then she continues to say "today, your wide awake eyes filled with sorrow, let it sleep for atleast a night".... the next moment I want to close my eyes and fall asleep

Hindi Song Title: Chaand Madhhaam Hai
    Hindi Movie/Album Name: Railway Platform
    Singer(s): Lata Mangeshkar
    Actors: Sunil Dutt/Nalini Jaywant
    Music Director: Madan Mohan Kohli
    Lyrics Sahir Ludhianavi

chaaNd maddham hai aasmaaN chup hai
neend ki god mein jahaaN chup hai
chaaNd maddham hai aasmaaN chup hai

    door vaadi mein doodhiyaa baadal
jhuk ke parbat ko pyaar karte hain
    dil mein naakaam hasraten lekar
    ham teraa intazaar karte hain
chaaNd maddham hai aasmaaN chup hai

in bahaaroN ke saaye mein aajaa -2
phir mohabbat javaaN rahe na rahe

    zindagi tere naamuraadoN par
kal talak meharbaaN rahe na rahe
chaaNd maddham hai aasmaaN chup hai

roz ki tarah, aaj bhi taare
subah ki gard mein na kho jaayen
aa tere Gham mein, jaagti aaNkhen
    kam-se-kam ek raat so jaayen
chaaNd maddham hai aasmaaN chup hai

The next song is the one that saw me through those horrible hostel nights... My walkman and me were like Karnan and his kavacha kundalam during my college days (now it is my ipod ) and the one cassette that did overtime then was an Amitabh hits one and this song was in the middle of side B. I would switch on the cassette and the target was to fall asleep before this song finished...

Hindi Song Title: koi gaata main so jaata
    Hindi Movie/Album Name: Alaap (1977)
    Singer(s): K.J.Yesudas
    Actors: Amitabh Bachchan
    Music Director: Jai Dev
    Lyrics: Harivansh Rai Bachchan

    koi gaata main so jaata
    koi gaata main so jaata
    koi gaata

    sanskriti ke vistrit saagar par
    sapnon ki nauka ke andar
sukh dukh ki lehron par uth gir
    behta jaata main so jaata
    koi gaata

aankhon mein bhar kar pyaar amar
    aashish hatheli mein bhar kar
koi mera sar godi mein rakh
    sehlaata, main so jaata
    koi gaata main so jaata
    koi gaata

    mere jeevan ka kaarajal
    mere jeevan ka haalahal
    mere
    mere jeevan ka kaarajal
    mere jeevan ka haalahal
koi apne swar mein madhumay kar
    barsaata, main so jaata
    koi gaata main so jaata
    koi gaata

    Other songs in the movie:

    Aayee Ritu Saawan Ki
    Chand Akela
    Kaahe Manva Naache
    Koi Gaata Main So Jaata
    Maata Saraswati Sharda
    Nayee Ri Lagan
    Zindagi Ko Sanwarna Hoga

The next song is from Masoom... If you haven't seen the movie, chances are that you wouldn't have heard of this song as this one is not that famous compared to the other three.
A lovely Shekar Kapur / Gulzar movie. I wonder why they don't have such lovely classic art movies in Tamil..

Hindi Song Title: Do naina aur ek kahani
    Hindi Movie/Album Name: Masoom (1983)
    Singer(s): Arti Mukherjee
Actors: Naseeruddin Shah, Shabana Azmi, Supriya Pathak, Aradhana, Jugal Hansraj & Urmila Matondkar
    Music Director: RD Burman
    Lyrics: Gulzar

    do nainaa aaur yek kahaanee
thodaa saa baadal thodaa saa paanee
    aaur yek kahaanee

chhotee see do zeelon mein wo bahatee rahatee hai
koee sune yaa naa sune kahatee rahatee hai
kuchh likh ke aaur kuchh jubaanee

thodee sai hain jaanee huyee, thodee see nayee
jahaa ruke aansoo wahee pooree ho gayee
hai to nayee fir bhee hain puraanee

yek khatm ho to doosaree yaad aa jaatee hai
hothhon pe fir bhoolee huyee baat aa jaatee hai
do nainon kee hain ye kahaanee

Other songs in the movie are

    Tujse naaraz nahin zindagi
    Lakdi ki kaati
    Huzur is kadar bhii na

RR: Thanks most of these Hindi songs are songs that would have some sort of a special moment attached to them It is nice to share those little thoughts...

I was working in Baroda where powercuts were frequent in those days. On one such evening when the power went off and we couldn't go home from work because we had something to finish, one of my friends Bala sang this song for us.
We were sitting outside in the Verandah, on a pleasant night, with the moon shining through the coconut leaves and this wonderful voice singing a really really beautiful song I've made him sing this song for me many many times after that, so much so that the gift I got for the following birthday from him was a Gulzar cassette with this song on it

Hindi Song Title: ek akEla is shehar mein
    Hindi Movie/Album Name: Gharonda (1977)
    Singer(s): Bhupendra
    Actors: Amol Palekar,Zarina Wahab
    Music Director: Jaidev
    Lyrics: Gulzar

Ek Akela Is Shahar Mein Raat Mein Aur Dopahar Mein
Aabodaana Dhoondta Hai Aashiyana Dhoondta Hai

Din Khali Khali Bartan Hai Aur Raat Hai Jaise Andha Kuan
In Sooni Andheri Aankhon Se Aansoon Ki Jagah Aata Hain Dhuan
Jeene Ki Vajah To Koi Nahi Marne Ka Bahana Dhoondta Hai
    Ek Akela Is Shahar Mein...

In Umar Se Lambi Sadkon Ko Manzil Pe Pohonchte Dekha Nahin
Bas Daudti Phirti Rahti Hain Humne To Theherte Dekha Nahin
Is Ajnabi Se Shahar Mein Jaana Pehechana Dhoondta Hai
    Ek Akela Is Shahar Mein...

    Other song in this movie

    Do deewane shehar mein
