A song for Oct 2nd, Mahatma Gandhi's Birthday

Mahathma Gandhi was assassinated in Jan 1948. I still remember the day and the radio broadcasts. I was in 5th standard.

I thought about India today and the poverty level. That is why this song from Ladki (1953).

    Insan Jo Rota Hai....

    From PeN(1954),Tamil version of Ladki:

ELiyor Manam Padum Paattile Ezhum Osaiyin Thaalaattile AaNdavan Aakaasamadhil Thoongugindraare.....

This was a popular song in the 50s and I used to sing it starting with 'aaNdavan aakaasamadhil thoongugindraare....'

    A moving song!
" I think there is a world market for may be five computers". IBM Chairman Thomas Watson in 1943.

Today is Bharat Ratna Lata Mangeshkar's birthday, and I'm posting some of my favorite songs by her, though it's quite difficult to select just a few songs from the thousands of hits she has rendered. There can be no lover of Hindi film music who is not moved by her mesmerising voice. Her songs are especially nostalgic for me as they remind me of my teenage and college life in Delhi, when I used to watch films with my friends. BTW I'm posting the songs in separate posts as it would be easier to index them.
