    Federer visits Tamil Nadu
    Sam Daniel

    Friday, December 22, 2006 (Cuddalore):

UNICEF Goodwill Ambassador and the world's number one tennis player Roger Federer started his three-day visit to Tsunami-hit areas of Tamil Nadu on Friday.

Federer's role as a UNICEF Goodwill ambassador brought him to an Integrated Child Development Centre, which helps children between two and five recover from the trauma of the Tsunami.

"I'm happy to see the progress that has been made in India. Other places not that far yet. You can very proud of the government that has helped and of UNICEF as well. This is a great step forward. Two years ago, things were looking very different. This gives the kids a chance. I see very happy faces in all the kids," said Federer.

Federer also visited a school to review one of UNICEF's other projects, an activity- based learning programme. But the focus was clearly on meeting with victims of the Tsunami and that included further visits to an orphanage and an HIV Centre.

"I was in Dubai. I saw it on TV, followed it as much as I could. It was a very emotional experience for me. We tried through the tournament to raise money because we've played in all those places. So, its been a pleasure for us as well so that’s why I’m here to show my respect to the lives that were lost."

Federer's visit to India lasts two more days and he will visit permanent housing shelters in neighbouring villages before leaving the country on Sunday. But in this brief period, he's provided enough inspiration for a lifetime.

I watched Federer play against Djokovic recently at the Rod Laver Arena as part of the Aus Opens. Seeing him play live was such a treat! Of course, it was not much of a match. Feddy simply walked all over young Djolie but still, it was worth the money to simply see Feddy's game!

The man is truly a king of tennis!!

    What a master!!!

Nike has got it right in their billboard ads all over Melbourne.

It shows a smiling Federer, with the caption

And then there are the others...
When we stop labouring under the delusion of our cosmic self-importance, we are free of hindrance, fear, worry and attachment. We are liberated!!!

    Roddick's comments on the 6-0:

Federer served out the set to inflict Roddick's first 6-0 loss in a set of Grand Slam tennis and broke again to take control of the third set.

The American snapped his 10-game losing streak by holding serve only for Federer to break again with forehand and backhand winners to go up 4-1. Roddick shouted ``God damn everything'' after losing the next game.

``I caught an absolute beating,'' Roddick said. ``You deal with it and you go back to the drawing board.''
    And, Federer:
“Look, it’s just unreal,” said Federer, “I’m shocked myself. I don’t know what to say. "

Feddy boy is awesome . But its too early to declare he is the best. Feddy vs vintage Sampras ( the emperor , the king of kings) will decide who is the best.

Gonzales plays awesome tennis . A superb final on the cards.
