மெல்லிசை மன்னர் எம்.எஸ்.வியின் மறைவு மையத்தை அதுவும் மக்கள் மற்றும் நடிகர் திலக ரசிகர்களுக்கு அந்த அளவுக்கு பாதிப்பை ஏற்படுத்தவில்லை என்றே நினைக்கத் தோன்றுகிறது. முக்கியமான பதிவர்களின் எண்ணிக்கையை கணக்கில் கொண்டால் கூட, சொற்பமான அளவிலேயே அஞ்சலி பதிவுகள் வந்திருக்கின்றன. குறைந்தது ஒருவாரத்திற்காவது இரு நடிகர்களது ரசிகர்களும் எம்.எஸ்.விக்கு இறுதி அஞ்சலி செலுத்தும் விதத்தில் தங்களக்கு பிடித்த பாடல்கள் மற்றும் சுவையான நிகழ்வுகளை பகிரவேண்டாமோ! ஆச்சர்யமாக இருக்கு. நீங்கள் செய்யவில்லை என்றால் வேறு யார் செய்வது?

திரிகளின் தரம் உயர்த்த முயன்று ,தோல்வி கண்டு விட்டேன். நிறைய எழுத ஆசை. மெல்லிசை மன்னரை பற்றி நான் எழுத ஆரம்பித்து முற்று பெறாமல் இருக்கும் தொடரை பற்றி அறிவீர்களே? அங்கும் சில கவனம் வேண்டும் ,பதிவுகளை ,கவனிங்கடா ..... மு ........ என்று சொல்ல போக, சம்பந்தமில்லாத நபர்கள் தலையிட, கூத்தாகி விட்டது. நடிகர்திலகத்தின் 25 படங்கள் விஸ்வநாதன் -ராமமூர்த்தி இசையிலும்(1952-1965), நெஞ்சிருக்கும் வரை,ஊட்டி வரை உறவு,இரு மலர்கள்,உயர்ந்த மனிதன் ,சிவந்த மண்,அவன்தான் மனிதன் போன்றவை விஸ்வநாதன் இசையிலும் அற்புதமாக மிளிர்ந்தவை. எழுத நிறைய இருக்கிறது. இளையராஜா திரி போல ,மற்ற திரிகளில் உயர் பங்களிப்புகள் வரவேற்க படுவதில்லை. நானோ வியாபாரி. இங்கு போடும் நேரத்தை, வியாபாரத்தில் செலுத்தினால் கோடி கணக்கில் லாபம்.அத்துடன்,என் தங்கை என்னை பிற விஷயங்கள் எழுத தூண்டுகிறாள்.



அதனால், என்னை பொறுத்த வரை ஆசை இருப்பினும் ,சோர்ந்து விட்டேன். மன்னிக்கவும்.

Grew up with Maestro. Ilaiyaraaja's music (needless to say!)

There were so many tracks/songs from the late 70s through 80s that I thought were by IR but only later learnt they were by MSV..

'Ninaithale Inikkum' released same time (correct me if am wrong) as 'Priya' - was an absolute challenge to IR's genre defying creativity! track to track, NI matched and perhaps arguably bettered Priya!

Some tracks which I mistakenly attributed to IR, were just outstanding :

"Raagangal padhinaaru" for Rajini in Thillu Mullu (that delightful Rajini - in the super able hands of late KB - is gone baby gone, but I wont digress),

"Maan kanda sorgangal" - from 47 natkal - here is a track for a situation abt a demure Indian housewife leading a miserable life with a narcissistic husband cheating on her - the tune structure is so unique, unlike any I have heard - if it was set to tune to lyrics already written (Kannadasan ?), then a total ripper (a la Shane Warne knocking off Chanderpaul's leg stump pitching almost outside the pitch's edge)..

The best of them - IMHO - were "Kanna kaanum kangal mella" from 'agni satchi' - one of the alltime greats of SPB - the bass line made it sound distractingly IRish! The parts "nilaa kaala megam ellaam, ulaa pogum neram kanney" in the pallvi, or, "nodiyil naal thorum niram maarum devi, vidai thaan kidaikkamal thadumarum kelvi" in the charanam - classic crossover between a lullaby and a romantic pathos melody....

and MSV's version of "Theertha karaiyiniley" (even though I did not like the way the tune meanders at 'vedhanai seigudhadi') is perhaps the best tribute to Bharathiar's words..beautifully rendered by SPB..

If IR (arguably) was a major factor contributing to the cult status of both Rajini and Kamal, MSV undeniably was an absolute major factor to creating the MGR 'cult' in TN cinema & the latter's ascent in politics....

The reach of movie tracks in creating a sense of euphoria amongst the masses often deluding them to blindly believe in their political masters was fully demonstrated by the way MGR in particular exploited the talents of MSV-TKR and Kannadasan to further his political ambitions..

MGR/DMK/ADMK/AIADMK/JJ et al owe MSV-TKR combo for making 'leaders' out of stars..and successful political parties out of a bunch of hooligans..

That, MSV's passing away has not garnered the attention he so richly deserves (am too small to even say anything like this) - says a lot about how artists are treated in our homeland...

But for the foundation MSV and co laid, we may not have seen the evolution leading to IR and ARR...

RIP - MSV's legacy will live forever...

Dear Venkkiram: I can understand your feelings but there is no need to despair. Given that MSV has been away from active composing in TFM for quite some time, it was heartening to see scores of people attend his funeral. There were probably crores of others, like me, who mourned in silence choked by tears. The local channels had a decent coverage and even the chennai FM channels, which are usually dominated by the latest "sounds' found time to talk about our MSV and even play a few of his songs. JAya Max had a three hour tribute on July 14 with the choicest of MVS songs, including Bharathi Kannamma, Athisaya ragam, Kana kanum, Oru naal iravu etc..
The Hindu has a one page tribute in its Chennai Friday Review. It announces a live webcast of a tribute to MSV at www.paalam.in/tv on July 19 at 4:30 PM.

Actor-filmmaker Kamal Haasan said late legendary composer MS Viswanathan (MSV), who passed away on July 14, has an inseparable bond with Tamil cinema and his music will always be remembered.

"MSV has blended into Tamil cinema history. He is part of Tamil and south Indian cultural tapestry. He has become the background score of many people's lives. They nostalgically recount their own life with his music," the actor said in a statement.

He also said the revered music composer has fans beyond his own generation and times.

"A good example is my daughter Shruti. She was studying music in the US, and on her return she wanted to meet MSV, for she had become his fan," he said.

Mr Haasan said that MSV always brushed aside his fame and glory to celebrate other artistes irrespective of their age.

"We will only miss him in his physical form. His music will stay on. I'm thankful to him for enriching my life with his music," he added.

MSV and his love for the Hindustani raag Bilaskhan-i Todi

"M.S. Viswanathan (MSV) had composed music in about 1000 movies in more than one language, an outstanding achievement. He was the first to compose film songs in one of the finest raags of Hindustani music -- Bilaskhan-i Todi. Very few songs have been composed in this raag even in Hindi cinema".

எம்.எஸ்.வீ பற்றி என் நண்பன் சாரு நிவேதிதா .

தொலைக்காட்சி வருவதற்கு முன்பு ஒட்டுமொத்தத் தமிழ் இனமே, ரேடியோ சிலோனில் கே.வி.மகாதேவனையும் அவரைத் தொடர்ந்து எம்.எஸ்.விஸ்வநாதனையும்தான் கேட்டுக்கொண்டிருந்தது. இரவு நேரத்தில் பத்து மணிக்கு மேல் வீட்டுத் திண்ணையில் பாயைப் போட்டு “அமைதியான நதியினிலே ஓடம்” (ஆண்டவன் கட்டளை) என்ற பாடலைக் கேட்காத ஒரு தமிழன் அந்நாளில் இருந்திருக்க முடியுமா? சர்வர் சுந்தரம், ஆயிரத்தில் ஒருவன், வாழ்க்கைப் படகு, பஞ்சவர்ணக் கிளி (தமிழுக்கும் அமுதென்று பேர்), எங்க வீட்டுப் பிள்ளை, பணத்தோட்டம், பாகப்பிரிவினை, கை கொடுத்த தெய்வம், பணம் படைத்தவன், பார்த்தால் பசி தீரும், பாவ மன்னிப்பு, பாலும் பழமும், புதிய பறவை என்று இப்படி நூற்றுக்கணக்கான படங்களில் எம்.எஸ்.விஸ்வநாதன் காலத்தால் அழியாத காவியப் பாடல்களை உருவாக்கினார். (வண்ணதாசன் “சில பழைய பாடல்கள்” என்று ஒரு சிறுகதையே எழுதியிருக்கிறார்).

எம்.எஸ்.விஸ்வநாதன் பற்றி ஏற்கெனவே ஏராளமாக எழுதியிருக்கிறேன். முக்கியமாக, தமிழர்கள் வரலாற்று உணர்வு இல்லாமல் எப்போதும் தற்காலத்திலேயே வாழ்ந்து தற்காலமே முக்காலமும் என்று நிரூபிக்க முயலும்போதெல்லாம் எம்.எஸ்.வி. பற்றி எழுதியிருக்கிறேன். கிட்டப்பா, பாபநாசம் சிவன், எம்.கே.தியாகராஜ பாகவதர், பி.யு.சின்னப்பா தொடங்கி தமிழ் வெகுஜன இசையில் பெரும் மேதைகளும் கலைஞர்களும் இருந்திருக்கிறார்கள். அந்த வரிசையில் ஜி.ராமநாதனுக்குப் பிறகு வந்த இரண்டு மேதைகள் கே.வி.மகாதேவனும் எம்.எஸ்.விஸ்வநாதனும் ஆவர். மற்ற இசை அமைப்பாளர்களிடம் இருந்து எம்.எஸ்.வி. வேறுபடும் இடம் எதுவென்றால், தொடர்ச்சி அறுபடாமலே பல ஆண்டுகள் மிகச் சிறந்த பாடல்களைக் கொடுத்தபடியே இருந்தார். ஆண்டுக்குப் பதினைந்திலிருந்து இருபது படங்கள் வீதம் (சில ஆண்டுகளில் இருபதுக்கும் மேல்) சுமார் இருபது ஆண்டுகள் தமிழ் சினிமாவின் சிகரத்தில் இருந்தவர் எம்.எஸ்.வி.

ஒரு படத்துக்காக இசை அமைப்பதற்கு இப்போதெல்லாம் எத்தனை எத்தனையோ வசதிகள் இருக்கின்றன. பாங்காக், லண்டன் என்றெல்லாம் போய் மாதக்கணக்கில் தங்கி இசை அமைக்கிறார்கள். ஆனாலும் ஒரு படத்தில் ஒரு பாடல் ஹிட் ஆவதே பெரும்பாடாக இருக்கிறது. ஆனால், எம்.எஸ்.விஸ்வநாதனின் இசையில் ஒரே படத்தில் ஐந்தாறு பாடல்கள் சூப்பர் ஹிட் ஆவதெல்லாம் அந்நாளில் மிகச் சாதாரணமாக நடந்துகொண்டிருந்தது. ஆனந்த ஜோதி, கர்ணன் என்ற இரண்டு படங்களை மட்டும் இங்கே உதாரணமாகச் சொல்லலாம். அவற்றில் இடம்பெற்ற அத்தனை பாடல்களும் காலத்தால் அழியாதவை.


தமிழர்களின் காதலை, பாசத்தை, துக்கத்தை, துயரத்தை, கொண்டாட்டத்தை, வீரத்தை, வேதனையை, மகிழ்ச்சியை, தனிமையை, பக்தியை, கேலியை, கிண்டலை இசையாக மாற்றிக்கொடுத்த மேதையான எம்.எஸ்.வி.யின் பூத உடல் இன்று மறைந்துபோனாலும் அவரது இசை, தமிழ் உள்ளளவும் இருக்கும் என்பதில் சந்தேகமே இல்லை. அந்த வகையில். எம்.எஸ்.விஸ்வநாதன் என்ற மகா கலைஞனுக்கு மரணமே இல்லை.

நினைத்தால் போதும் பாடுவேன்.

மெல்லிசை மன்னரின் சாதனை துளிகளில் முக்கியமானது நெஞ்சிருக்கும் வரை.இறுதி காட்சிக்கு முன்போ அல்லது இறுதி காட்சியிலேயோ பாடல் வைக்கும் தைரியம் ஸ்ரீதருக்குத்தான் உண்டு.அதுவும் சற்று சறுக்கினாலும் ,நகைப்புள்ளாக்கி விடும்.காதலிக்க நேரமில்லை நெஞ்சத்தை அள்ளி போல லகுவான படமல்ல. intense emotion with compelling climax scene .முதல் மேதைமை ஹம்சாநந்தி ராகத் தேர்ந்தெடுப்பு.டெம்போ கூட்ட கூடியது.அடுத்தது arrangement of multi -layered archestration with sharp transition counter -points .
அடுத்தது எனக்கு பிடித்த கீதாஞ்சலி. அருமையான நாட்டிய கவர்ச்சி பாவை.இந்த பாடலில் அவர் கொடுத்திருக்கும் fast movements ,துப்பாக்கியை மனதில் கொடுத்து விடும்.அவர் தன் Grace சற்று துறந்து பாடலின் டெம்போ வுடன் இணைவார்.(choreographer யார்?)சிவாஜி ஓடி வருவதில் ,இசையின் வேகத்திற்கேற்ப கட் பண்ணி ஸ்ரீதர் கொஞ்சம் fast motion கொடுத்திருக்கலாமோ என்று தோன்றும்.(அந்த கோப உக்கிரம் அந்த ஓட்டத்தில் register ஆகவில்லை ,விஸ்வநாதனின் இசை உக்கிரத்திற்கு தக்க).கண்ணதாசனை கேட்க வேண்டுமா?

பாலின் நிறம் போல உருவான பெண்மை
பனியில் விளையாடும் கனிவான மென்மை
எங்கும் பறந்தோடும் இளம் தென்றல் அல்ல
ஏக்கம் வரும் போது எல்லோர்க்கும் சொல்ல

இறுதியாக பாடகி.ஜானகியை விட்டு வேறு பாடகியை இந்த பாடலுக்கு நினைத்தே பார்க்க முடியாது.(இத்தனைக்கும் கிளாஸ் என்று பார்த்தால் சுசிலாவின் கண்ணன் வரும் தான்)இந்த situation க்கு ஏற்ற பரபரப்பு ,ஆரம்பமே உச்சம் தொடும்,பாவமுள்ள ஜீவனுள்ள பாடும் முறை.

எனக்கு இன்றும் கூச்செறிய செய்யும் பாடல்.ஸ்ரீதர் மட்டும் இன்னும் கொஞ்சம் திரைகதையை செதுக்கி இருந்தால் ,மெல்லிசை மன்னர் பட்ட பாட்டிற்கு நெஞ்சிருக்கும் வரை எங்கோ சென்றிருக்க
வேண்டிய படம். என்னவோ ...ஏதோ....ஒரு பீம்சிங்,பந்துலு,நாகராஜன் சிவாஜியுடன் கூட்டணி கண்டது போல ஸ்ரீதர்,பாலசந்தரால் காண முடியாதது அவர்களுக்கும் நமக்கும் துரதிர்ஷ்டமே.
